Ticking noise

So I started to notice everytime I hit boost something in the front ticks.

This only happens when I hit boost, if I drive around with the boost gauge never showing boost, then the ticking noise never happens. This noise is comming from the front driver side.

I only notice it when boost is below 5psi. Not sure if it goes away after 5 psi, but my car gets loud so I don't hear anything.

Also I hear it when I push the clutch in, the DV releases air and for about 1-2 seconds after that the ticking continues and just stops.

I'm sure its not the mviec ticking like many other do. Its been ONE h3ll of a winter in Chicago so far and it is constantly single digit temp, so the car is making weird noises. I'm not too worried just yet, but any guess what it can be?

can't be injectors or lifter. I would not hear the ticking at small boost only. I mean at 1 psi I already hear it. BCS? I have a manual Boost controller which will be replaced by a 3-port in march.

dude i swear my ix just started doing the same thing, but i didnt know how to explain it. its driving me nuts/ it sounds like right when i pull out at a low rpm or right at the start of boost. it wont do it with the car in neutral or if i just hit the gas. but my best guess is its a solenoid. it ticks like a solenoid for maybe five seconds then either it stops or the car is too loud to hear it. please someone help us out.

ps. i heard my friends dsm make the same noise from a injector SOLENOID and thats why i think it sounds like a solenoid

Just a shot in the dark, but take a look at your rear motor mount. My bolts were loose on mine. It sounded fine while ideling but under boost it sounded like crap! I was just looking around one day and saw the loose bolt.

I'll post a pic when I get home.

I think anyone that has strange noises should look at it. My car is a stock ix with 27K on it, so I feel like it was never properly tightened from the factory.

Really doubt its bent valves. Wouldn't that cause the ticking to occur all the time? Any not only under mild boost.

Sounds like you are in the same boat as I am. I'm hoping its the boost solenoid. My reasoning is if it would be injectors, valves, etc it would happen more oftern then only at mild boost. So I'm guessing its something to do with the turbo system.

The factory BCS is still connected (electronically) and that's why it is making noise. I'm running an EBC and I hear it as well. If I remember right, electronically disconnecting the BCS will throw a code.

Yup, the BCS is still connected.

On the side note, today was the first day we got out of single digit temperatures and went straight to 51 degrees!!!! Gotta love Chicago. The great news is that the ticking stopped. Guess my car doesnt like the cold

Thanks everyone for the input
