Real simple... 03 VIII turn key no cranking...
Put key in ignition, Have power, batt voltage, and fuel, turn the key and NOTHING at all. Fuses look good, just get nothing when you turn the key like you would if you turned the key and your foot was not on the clutch.
crank angle sensor?
cam angle sensor?
Who has the answer???
Thanks
steve

There's nothing in the cranking circuit that is controlled by the ECU. So the failure of the crank or cam angle sensor won't prevent cranking.
The circuit is extremely simple. There's the starting relay, clutch switch and the starter.

Evos have a immobilizer built into the key and if it is damaged or a copy of a key and its not programed for the car it will not even crank the immobilizer tells the computer not to let the car crank, so if you had a key made at walmar ect and its not a mits key that might be your problem. I would almost bet money that's your problem. if you need to know more about it look in your owners manual if you don't have one let me know ill go look in mine for you.

If the starter is not turning it has nothing to do with the immobilizer, ECU, or any other security feature. Could be a bad starter, bad relay, loose wire (in ignition switch, at clutch, at starter), or blown fuse.

you can just unplug your clutch switch at the pedal. that will eliminate it so be careful not to leave the car in gear. At the starter which is located pretty much straight down from the turbo you will find 3 connections. One is Battery power which is just a straight lead to the battery or fuse box i believe and you should see around 12 volts on that all the time. The other terminal is the motor terminal and it should have 12 volts whenever the last connection "S" or signal terminal is energized( it will be the small one with the black plug. Get someone to turn the key and check to see if that terminal is getting voltage. If the S terminal is getting power then check the motor terminal. If S has power and M does not , its the solenoid. If the S and M both are getting power then your starter is bad or your motor is seized.
Check the ground wire to the starter. It popped out a few times on hard drives on me. Its the one that clips to the metal piece on the starter. It's by the oil return line area.
this is the correct path of diagnosis for this problem.
begin by ruling out the most common issue........ THE STARTER. unplug the single black wire that goes to the starter... hook up a test light to it have someone turn the key to the 'START' position. if you get 12v change your starter.
