and before anyone says it i have searched and i havent found anything sounding like this, i am a work right now and i cant sit on these forums all day and look thou pages of stuff, so please if you have any ideas please help

can you hear anything else? the hum can be a frozen cold starter... is it clicking too? can you be a little more specific?

its just a real mild hum coming from what seems like the passanger side of the engine compartment. if it is frozen cold is there any way to keep this from happening?

LMAO i guess burn it like you said?

j/k...

they sell engine warmers, not for evos, but its a universal object... i know in alaska its a real big thing... to prevent this from happening...

more than likely your starter is frozen... because its on teh passengers side.. if you dont have your under carriage tray on lay down and have someone try to start it... if its near the tranny its the starter

hum is probably your fuel pump. Maybe one of your coils are toast

well i know that it is possible... i dont know if this is your case or not... its one of many things... id love to sit here and try to trouble shoot but work calls... like i said... easiest to find out if its your starter, have someone else start your car... and it is right in the middle / passenger side of the transmission... it will help you identify the location of the hum and hopefully your problem...

might be your starter. i just replaced mine like 2 weeks ago. i feel you on this cold. we were getting subfreezing temps here in wisconsin and my car was having a hard time starting. when i started my car i could hear the starter grinding on the flywheel. really new to me as a starter problem. tested it 3 times at 3 different autoparts store and passed. put back in and did the same thing. so ordered new one and fine now. starts up like a champ. good luck.

starter is not hard to do. hardest part was removing the plastic undertray. sits right next to the downpipe. i remember doing a starter job on my 97 gsx and that was a beotch. hope you figure out the problem.
