Brett, I also just installed an Exedy Twin and have some shifter problems. I brought it back to the shop and told them that I had problems with getting into and out of some gears, more specifically 1st and 4th. They adjusted some of the shifter cables under the console and that helped a lot. As a precaution, they took the car and reinspected everything--it is also a possibility that your shifter forks may be bent/broken. They also switched me to Redline tranny fluid. It shifts much better now, although I'm still getting a little notchiness and I experience similar troubles (not as bad though) with 5th and 6th gear.

Maybe you may look into the shifter cables, as you won't need to buy anything.

thanks al3xx i will definitely do that as well! Hopefully with adjustment of shifter cables, clutch pedal adjustment, brass shifter bushings and new fluid it will solve my issues... I guess if it doesn't work it must be a damaged hub slider, tuning fork, or other damaged part- it will be a few days or longer until I can try out those things, but I will update afterwards-

Thank you everyone for your input, it has been really helpful!

hey, i had that happen on my evo. 6th gear is hare to put in it. and shift down to 5th, feels sticky? right? and no other gears are not go throw. so i did 6th to 5th really quiek, if not, all the gears are not working. i drove that conditions for 8month. after then, i had some canyon drive, some highway race, had nomore 6th gear. so i used only 1~5th gears. after that i rebuild my tranny, i saw internals, sincros, and others i dont know what is, but i saw few things are broken, and crak. you go better check to the tranny/machanic shops. i hope you dont have big problems. good luck.

Thanks, yeah thats the same problem I am having with mine
I can get it into 6th but it is really hard to get into gear, and I have to push the shifter really hard to the right as I pull it back into 6th or it wont go...
Update:
I installed brass shifter bushings yesterday which helped a little bit. Waiting on new tranny fluid ordered from Milspec... checked shifter cables and nothing was pressing donw on them or restricting them (not sure what else to look for), checked clutch pedal, seems to have plenty of travel so I did not adjust. Also, I tried shifting through the gears with the car off and problems with 6th were still there.
I am convinced there is mechanical damage that can only be cured by a rebuild. The car is definitely drivable and I can still get it into 6th with some effort, but sounds like its on borrowed time I'm hoping that with flushing my tranny fluid it will allow me to continue having use of my 6th gear for a while (hopefully even years if I am lucky) until I can afford a built 5 speed. Really the only time I use 6th is for highway cruising and car is not my daily driver. Will update again after tranny fluid is replaced- not expecting it to fix the problem, but hopefully it will make it a little easier to engage into 6th

I have the same problem but with 3rd and 4th, I can't get in to gear with out giving it astrong push.

my car has the HTA35R and supported mods it was a blast to drive and the tq was damn amazing, but while am in the process of tuning this happens, and the tq is gone but I can still fell it pulling hard.

nice! Yeah I can at least get it into 6th and back out it is just kind of a PITA but at least I only have to use 6th on the highway! I will have to baby it until I can afford to make mine explode as well

That sucks I would rather it happen to 6th! Sounds strange about your torque being gone tho... is that because they couldn't finish your tune? Can't get into 4th on the dyno or something?

I haven't looked into it yet but I wonder if the 5speed has any of the same issues with burred hub sliders/ probs getting into and out of gear...

DJ Brett: How many miles on your tranny when you switched to the exedy clucth? What Fluid do you currently have in there? Who did the swap..

Am thinking here.. and I agree with what everyone has said.. as there all possibilities but none of them have you confirmed as being the real problem.

Have you checked the forks make sure there in place properly..? A friend had a problem where after a clutch swap on his MR he struggle getting into and out of 6th gear and slight roughness getting in and out of 5th.. come to find out at the end it was his fork but since he drove in the condition for a while, one day he just got locked out of all gears on the freeway.. and F*** up his TC.

I know it shouldn't matter or is not relevant but he swapped in a Exedy as well.. Single Plate Hyper Clutch Kit.

Thanks Redlin06! It sounds like your friend's car was having the exact same issues as mine- I will definitely have the forks checked out as soon as I can get it into a shop (I wouldnt know how to tell) but I will take it to the shop who did my install. I have only run OEM fluid, had it changed at 12K miles, but going to put in the fluid from Milspec mentioned earlier in this thread, and I have done a few track days so I need to change it anyway. Clutch went in at 10K and was also when I noticed issues started, car has just over 17K now. Thank you for your input!!! I will have to get my car in to the shop and follow up on here, probably be early next week when I can get it checked out-Thanks again!

Fluid is on its way. You should have gotten a tracking number from UPS. Let me know if it helps.

I now have 103,000 miles on my OEM 6 speed, but it has never seen the track. At some point TRE is going to work their magic, because, I like the 6 speed and want it beefier

TRE is building a 6spd for me right now.

The 6spd currently in the car has exactly this same problem with a VERY difficult shift to 6th gear.

I bet it's a bent shift fork personally. After tracking the car, 6th is even harder to get in. Seems to get a little better with the more slow speed driving I do.

Thanks Fireball- I'm thinking that the fork is bent at this point... going to try the fluid from Milspec and see how it does after that... the shop I go to said it would cost about $540, or about as much as a clutch install to get to the clutch fork and check it out so before I pay anybody to do that I am going to try the fluid, although i won't be surprised if it doesn't fix my issues. Car is getting fluid changed next Thursday so I will update then and report back on it!

Thanks Erik! I did receive a tracking number, so fluid is going to be changed on thursday and I will post here if it helped out! Appreciate your help!

As a side note, I have considered getting a 6 speed rebuild like you have mentioned- My only worry would be how it would hold up to occasional HPDE days at the local track (Miller Motorsports Park) where it stays in 4th most of the time- usually 3rd, 4th, & 5th gear. Wondering with the shot peening and maybe an oil cooler how long it would last if I only track it 1-2 days a year or if I would be better off with a built 5 speed... Maybe I should check out the TRE website!!!
