turbo compressor porting
turbo compressor porting
ok I was going to port my stock manifold and 02 housing. I also am going to buy a ported 10.5 hot side. I am pretty good when it comes to porting so I think it will be easy. But has anyone ever ported the compressor housing. I have seen a few threads on other sites about it. the only thing Im worried about is the out let side to the intercooler. sould I just port match it to the pipe coming off the housing or can I go all the way up into the housing were the turbine wheel is?
There's not much power gain in doing what you're contemplating. The power to be had from porting comes from relieving backpressure in the turbine housing which directly impacts the pressure differential across the turbine if done correctly.

a evo 8 turbo could definately use some help. you need some beefy snap ring pliers to get that ring off.
when looking into the comp housing, i removed that hump where air feeds into the scroll area. if you look into the 9 turbo, that hump is eliminated......i was able to get 360 whp on a e8 turbo on 91 octane...this was on a dyno jet.
i have seen people enlarging the outlet of the compressor housing, but unless you have made a discharge pipe, your wasting your time....i think fp sells a 1.875" od discharge pipe.... i do know that on my e8 discharge pipe, the tightest i.d. was ~1.580".....a e9 discharge pipe wasnt much better @ 1.620".....i never measure the id of the fp unit, but it looks to be made of steel, average wall thickness is ~.035", so figure that unit has a i.d. of ~1.800 or so in the bend area....
if you've got 1 of those discharge pipes, i would then taper the outlet of the compressor housing to blend into the discharge pipe...i made mine out of aluminum, so it had a wall thickness of ~.060" & a i.d. of ~1.750"....not sure how much it was worth at the end of the day.
