I have just hit 70000 miles. I have s1 cams. As long as you have proper fail safes in place meth is your friend. With it you run about 32 psi before you start incountering problems. I have heard of people lifting heads attempting 35psi on stock studs. The HFS-1 will cut you to wastegate pressure if you have low flow, no flow, overflow(extreme), and a few other reasons. This will keep your engine safe. If on pump gas with out meth and a good fail safe I would not attempt any over 24psi. I personnally will only go to aftermarket studs when I build my motor or pull the head for some reason. Until then the stock ones have held like a champ.

I would like to do the head studs just to be safe, but I hear doing them one at a time with the head still on the block can cause the head gasket to leak.

The best way to do this is get two gallons of 50/50 from the parts store, drain the coolant from the rad and engine and then do the head studs. This way when you loosen the head bolts you eliminate the chance of coolant dumping into your cylinders. I don't recommend doing them one at a time because you have to follow the torque sequence and if there are still head bolts that are tight as you install and torque the nut down on the stud your head will be unevenly torqued.

Interesting thread, I am aproaching 97k and have just started on the internals. Just put in some hks 272s and by the sound of it i will be replacing lifters soon. yes i bled em. But i am waiting on an fpred to be mailed back to me. So with no meth i should not have to worry at all about replacing the guts? Besides the high mileage random fubar right?
