i don't know about other peolpe but it happens with me from time to time. i have seen 25 psi on cold weather, so now i always watch the boost gauge, but most of the time it is rock solid at 22 psi.

I had a profec B on my 99 eclipse gsx, it was a great boost controller, it would do exactly what i wanted it to do, and would hold rock solid boost w/no spiking whatso ever. I'd highly reccommend it for those who want an ebc...

however, I just switched out to a turboxs mbc...

because if you take a step back, the boost controller is like the fuse of your motor, if that boost controller fails or the lines can blow off for any reason, you can kiss your motor goodbye...

with an EBC, you're trusting an electronic stepper motor worth like $50 with the responsibilty of keeping your $30k car from blowing up. and if you've owned anything electronic before, you know that things can/do fail.

an MBC is a ball and spring... i'm at a loss of what could fail there.

just my honest opinion here...

well, not really. Many EBC;s have overboost protection built into them to avoid exactly this. I know the EVC4 and 5 does and it works incredibly well (reverts you immediately to the wastegate spring should something go wrong). The ball and spring ones can fail too and cause overboosting - have had it happen on my own car (a Legacy Turbo). For me, the convenience alone of not having to constantly play with the spring setting during big weather changes (which here in NY can happen alot during spring and summer months where temps can drop 30 degrees between day and night), is worth the price of admission alone. But in the end, people use both and are happy with both, its all about how the plusses and minusses add up to the person making the decision.

I'm quite happy with my profec-e01, at first i was reluctant because the lcd display looked like a tv, but after installing it, it dosen't look that odd after all. As a matter of fact i enjoy looking at it all the time... I came from a mbc, and the change is day and night, i gained torque and power, because the boost is more constant and it holds till redline, the monitoring devices are also useful.
