Anyone ever rebuilt a Mitsu turbo?

I've acquired a Green that has a little bit of play, and has every so slightly contacted the housing-no damage to the wheel.

I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased a rebuild kit and done the rebuild themselves?

I have. There used to be a writeup on how to do it on ClubDSM but since that site and all associated sites are effectively dead, I'll just explain it.

All the parts going in look identical to the ones coming out. "Technically" you should have it spin balanced after you put it back together, but there is a way around this, or so the FAQ stated. I'll also go ahead and say I did it this way and my turbo lasted until I wrecked the car some 40K miles later.

You get a scribe and mark the wheel in relationship to the top of the shaft, so when you put it back on, it will be in the same place it was when you removed it. I also took pictures of it to make sure BEFORE I disassembled it.

Other than that, installation is reverse of disassembly. There's not alot of parts in it so it's kinda hard to F up.

I have rebuilt quite a few DSM 14b and 16g turbos. I am pretty sure the Evo turbos are similar. Here is a big tip: have the the main shaft + turbine + compressor wheels professionally spin balanced. If you do not, the turbo WILL explode. I've tried many many times to get away without spin balancing, it just never works out. I think you might be able to order all the parts, just go to any mitsu dealership and the parts guy will show you all the internals and the part numbers. Just pull the turbo apart and see which bearings (*and other items) need replacing. You will need a good set of snap ring pliers. Keep in mind the main nut on the compressor wheel is REVERSE THREADED.

Is there such a thing as a rebuild "kit"? If so, where would one get such a thing?
