Stock Evo 9, larger FMIC... any problems?

My car was in an accident that required replacing my fmic, and bumpers. I had the body shop replace the OEM FMIC with a Buschur Race core fmic.

I just got the car back from the bodyshop, any time I rev it hard (without the clutch held in), it sputters and does bad clunking things around 3500-4000 rpm. And the service engine soon light came on.

I'm just wondering if a larger FMIC on a stock IX, totally stock other than the FMIC, no tune or anything, would cause a problem, or if it's likely that something was missed that was damaged in the accident.

In the accident, the lower FMIC pipe got disconnected and things all bent up and it sputtered and acted weird then, so I'm thinking something wasn't fixed in the accident.

thanks

I highly doubt the IC itself is causing any issue like this. Something went wrong in the installation is my guess. You could have installed this yourself, it's a pretty easy install.

Check your IC piping and make sure they are in good and snug. If not, use some hairspray and T-Bolt clamps to get them in good and secure.

So what would your engine do if you were trying to accelerate under full throttle with a fmic pipe loose or hanging off?

Loose it will leak boost, won't hold pressure.

If it is ahnging off the car will spit black smoke and more or less will not go anywhere.....as well as sputter and pop

lol you cant do that with any off your pipping loose. First of all you would not see any BOOST period maybe 3 psi lol if you lucky secondly sometimes not always your car will idle like complete junk and vibrate so wildly. third it will stall and die lol. Rpms would be dropping and raising etc. hope thats answers your question kinightrider9

Spudder... Feel like a complete loss of power while flooding the engine with fuel. If the IC pipe came off then it'll probably cut out due to too much fuel/flooding and no air- simply reconnect the IC pipe.

The clanking noise... will not be from the FMIC, maybe the lower pipe bouncing around if it's not connected.

Yeah, mine acts like its building boost, then there is an abrupt jolt from the car as it deccelertes sharply. Feels like I ran into something.

It's weird because if I hold the clutch in, it revs all the way up fine with no apparent issues. But when it's under load, it has the major issue with the hard jolt.

Might not have anything to do with the FMIC at all, but since that's the only non-OEM part on the car, I figured I'd ask before the bodyshop, insurance company or dealership starts saying it's because of the FMIC. I think something else is wrong that was missed during the repairs from the accident.

Boost cut maybe? since boost cut is a load setting, a leak after the MAF will cause you to hit it sooner than you would without a leak. Or maybe your not hitting boost cut at all just have a pipe blown off. recheck all your connections especially around the intercooler.

boost leak

I had exact problem. Turned out to be a very small boost leak on the lower pipe that connects to the turbo. I was able to build up to 5lbs and then it just dropped like a rock.

The reason that you can rev the car fine is that the engine is not under a load thus it itsnt really building any boost. When you are actually accelerating the turbo is spooling and building boost thus causing your small leak to be more apparent. Do a boost leak test and see what you come up with.

Ok, I'll check all my connections.

A boost leak would cause a major thud and shock through the drivetrain that slows the car rapidly and practically throws it out of gear? When it happened twice, it felt like i ran over a log!

Sounds like your licp hose is popping off. Do you have a boost gauge or a mbc?
