Evo 9 first gear really worth it?

Hey ya'll,

I have my tranny at Shepherds transmission right now. I had a gear tooth chip off of 2nd gear and he replaced the gear for me. He has the whole tranny put back together.

But I was wondering if while it was there if it would be worth it to go ahead and get the evo 9 first gear put in. (my car really needs the 4.11 Final drive but cant afford it right now). I just thought this might be a decent upgrade for my car. but do ya'll think it's really worth it? He said he could take it back apart but I'm not sure it's worth the extra labor and the extra cost of the gear.

BTW I've seen videos of me at the track and it seems like 1st gear is so short that I don't even get past the staging lights before I have to switch to 2nd thats real short lol

let me know what ya'll think

thanks,
John

also, If I were to ever get a 4.11 final drive wouldnt it make my evo 8 1st gear longer anyway?

But if I had the evo 9 first gear in and THEN did a 4.11 FD on top of that then that would make 1st even longer than the 8 1st gear with the 4.11 is that correct?

I'm guessing the longer the better???

here I did stock evo 8 gear ratios for the 1st tranny and Stock evo gear ratios with a 4.11 FD for the second tranny.

Does anyone know what the evo 9 first gear ratio is? I've looked for it but cannot find it, I would like to know it to enter it into this calculator

I am getting a 2.3 done here in a couple of weeks along with the tranny. Should I go with the 9 first gear?

If you change the final drive just go with the ultimate ratio. If you don't your 5th gear will make the car more dead than it already is in 5th, and if you are planning on making big power the first gear is a must<<<

RECAP: if you do 4.11 FD - DO AN ULTIMATE RATIO - or don't do it at all. Just my 2 cents

If you go to the TRE website (teamrip.com) there's a sectionn that tells you the mph gain from a 4.11 FD graphed by RPM/Gear. With Evo 9 1st gear you get 2mph more out of the gear. Not really a huge difference at all but longer yes. Evo 9 1st/input combo are also stronger than the 8. If I did a rebuild personally I would keep all 8 gears and do a 4.11 OR go with a taller tire.

Well I had BR rebuild my tranny using the 9 first and fifth. I kept the OEM final drive. It's not in the car yet, it's actually sitting in my back seat. I can't wait to get it put in. I'm wondering how the car will feel driving on the street.
