Evo 8 to Evo 9 Turbo

I know this has probably been discussed a lot, so I apologize for that, but I tried searching and couldn't find it. If someone could link me to a thread or help me with the question that would be awesome. Thanks

What is needed to swap from a Evo 8 turbo to a Evo 9 turbo?

The only thing you NEED is the J pipe which can be had for about 30 bucks. The oil and water lines can be bent to fit. Running mine for 10K now with no problems.

Like bluebanana23 said, you can bend the lines to make them fit but if you kink or brake a line your gonna end up having to order a kit anyway....But IMHO i would do it right the first time and not cut any corners, then you know you don't have to worry about anything...

even cheaper you can just reuse everything. just hit the j pipe with a hammer where it contacts the starter.

I just answered this in a PM so might as well just post it here:

h around for specifics. If you get the IX turbo with all of its coolant and oil lines, and the compressor outlet, you'll be in good shape. The oil feed line needs to be bent slightly to get it on, just make sure its straight on with the hole in the head to get the banjo bolt in cleanly. Oil return bolts to oil pan, get that on before you tighten any of the manifold bolts up top. The most important thing is the compressor outlet pipe, you NEED the one for an IX, the VIII one bolted to a IX turbo will hit the starter and is VERY dangerous.

Any stock copper washers or gaskets that are untouched should be fine to leave, but replace any others and torque to spec; banjo bolts break easy. Do a SS o2 housing and ported exhaust manifold while you ahve everything apart. Port the turbine housing if you're feeling crazy, all are WELL worth it.

Good luck!

Just did this this weekend. I ordered an install kit from mitsubishiparts.net, and bought some additional crush washers as their kit doesn't come with all of them, nor does their kit come with a manifold to hotside gasket. I also had to buy the gasket for the oil drain line on the turbo side.
