The ugly battery in EVO

I have done the search, can't find to much on the subject. I see the mini kit from several stores, relocation kits, and some cheap looking plastic boxes from others. I see tie downs....nothing does it for me.

Does anyone make something that would dress up the current battery with that ugly corragated plastic crap around it? A nice polished box or carbon fiber? I am sure someone has addressed this issue.

I like the Optima too, here is what it looks like. Since I was finishing up the install at 3 A.M., I fabricated the tie down real quick, I will probably have it anodized at some point.

Anyone have any good leads on the gel-cell battery packs? The super small lightweight ones.

You're worried about battery cosmetics? Put your money in other areas, or better yet, buy a smaller lightweigth battery.

Optima batteries are big and heavy. I just installed the Odyssey 680MJT. Check out their site http://www.odysseybatteries.com/auto.htm

This battery only weights 15.4 lbs. They cost about $130. You will need to modify your tie down.

Bspeed... that battery looks like a great mod. (super weight savings and some extra space too.) What is the warranty?

The specs on the battery are available on the web site. There is a 3 year warranty. As far as battery life it depends on what you mean. Battery life while your car is sitting in a parking lot without the engine running, while playing 50cent, pushing 5 14" speakers....probably not very long. Battery life under normal use...ie - starting your car, I would suppose is as good or better than stock.

Specs below:
PC 680

680 cranking amps
28 minute reserve capacity with 25amp load
Dimensions: inches (mm)
width 3.11 (79)
length (terminal side) 7.27 (184.7)
height* 6.67 (169.4)
Weight 15.4 lbs / 7.0 kg

Don't pay so much for your Odyssey. This ebay seller has them for $63 ($74 for 680MJT) plus $10 shipping and they sell the aluminum hold down boxes for $25 (black or silver). Be sure to buy the auto terminal adaptors too (add $8).

PS: get the MJT version if you are installing it in the engine bay. If relocating to truck or interior, the regular 680 is fine. (MJT= Metal Jacket for high temp aps.) It's 680 CCA! 2 year replacement warranty.

The odyssey website says 3 year warranty for the red cased batteries. I paid $130 for the 680MJT with auto terminals from a local place so I don't doubt that you can find a better price online...looks like you can save $30 or so. At any price it works like and all star....anyone want to buy a stock battery. "Evolutionist" - If you are worried about the way it looks I'll paint it for you...

Thanks for your post. I do like the engine bay to look as good as the other mods I put on the car. I have been doing it for 20 years. Hard to break that habit. I have put enough mods on the car for engine performance for a couple of months. I want to drive it for a while to see to go with suspension or more engine. Thanks

PS: Money is not a problem here.

Specs below:
680 cranking amps
So there is no way this thing can compete with the 880 cold cranking amps of my red top Optima, since it doesn't have that many under ideal conditions.

The last thing I want here when it is 15 below is some wimpy battery that saved me 10 lbs. but leaves me freezin my *** off in a parking lot at 1 A.M.
