Ok so im going to go with drop in pistons and rods over getting a built block. What parts would i also need? Like bearings rod bolts ect? Also what piston and rod combo you would go with thank you .

 

Drops ins? You'll regret it in the long run.

Just pay the extra and get it done right.

 

I mean i have a block just sitting in my garage. How much would it be in labor to put in a built block over drop in pistons? I haven't heard anything bad about drop in pistons though.

 

Thats cause majority of people don't post up when **** hits the fan.

If you have a stock block in the garage just send it to a local machine shop to get done.

 

I have a drop-in CP/Manley combo in my VIII and have run without any problems, however the whole purpose of doing drop-ins is so you don't have to remove the engine (save some $$ here). If you have a block sitting around the only way to do it is to have the assembly built, hence balanced, bored, honed, etc. Do some homework at your local machine shops and they can get you some pricing or hav your local speed shop get you some quotes.

 

yeah i got a quot of 2100 for labor to do drop in pistons and rods. Im sure to put in a built block would be way over that probly at least 3k.

 

Drop ins can work up to 500-550WHP judging on well its done. After that and high boost something will go eventually.

Any normal evo speciality shop would charge at the most 750-1200 TOPS. The built block will run you around 3k+1K to install.

Opposed to 1300 in parts +1k in labor for drop ins. (Which will only last depending on ALOT of circumstances.)

 

If it would only be 1k labor to put in a built block i would do that in a heart beat. Ill have to go and see if i get better prices :P.

I think it all depends on how well it was done and how you drive the car. Pushing a 3586 at 30psi on e85 on drop-ins and no problems (crosses fingers), lol. Keep in mind though I'm not flogging the car on a daily basis. Lots of discussion on this subject as well if you do some searching. Everybody has their opinion. I do agree however that if you can remove everything from the car and have it all machined that is the way to go.

You have LOTS of options, more in being Turbotrix, Dynoflash which i believe is in CT, CBRD. All respectable shops.

 

same thing can be said about built blocks, and even stock blocks. a built motor is not invincible. i've seen motors from big name shops fail in as little as one day after they dynoed it and gave the car back. with time and care, drop ins will work very well. buschur and most other big shops sell drop in piston kits because they know it works. is it as good as a complete build? no, but its certainly stronger then the stock parts which is the goal.
