Spark plugs..

How often do you guys replace plugs? I just went over 30k on my EVO and I've had it for a couple months. I notice it sometimes idles rough and sometimes turns over with some difficulty. Is this because it runs so rich? I figure plugs are a good place to start with trying to sort out what's going on. Also, do you reccommend a certain type/brand or just stick with OEM?

I am at 45k and just changed my plugs again. But the first time I changed them was just to have some fresh ones for the tune. I just went with the factory NGK plugs ILFR7H if my memory serves me right. Might want to double check that though. I think it was about 25 a plug at the dealership.

Check your plug first before changing them. That also depends on your mod where you might need to change them sooner than 30k.

NGK BPR9ES, I can get about 6-8000 miles on E85, I normally change them when I change my oil. At a 1.70 a plug, why not.

I'm looking for OEM-type plugs that are two steps colder than original equipment for my IX... what is the heat range for the factory IX plugs? Is it 7?

I found colder-range NGK BPR7EIX and BPR8EIX that are iridium plugs - only $8.48 each (plus shipping) at sparkplugs.com:

Will the BPR8EIX work on my Evo IX for big boost (up to 30 psi on E85) like the NGK R7437-8 plugs that AMS wants $41.52 for EACH?

http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/N...mance.com.html

Also, does anyone have any experience with using both the NGK BPR8EIX, and the Denso IKH24, which is also a one-step-colder iridium plug? Which one works better?

The IKH24 and IKH27 (2 steps colder) are both $11.99 each at sparkplugs.com:

54k and running the plugs the car came with. Runs fine. I figure they will go past 60k.

Is your car running stock boost? If not, you might want to consider changing them a little more frequently. My IX only has 20k miles on it and I'm changing mine now just as a preventative maintenance measure (E85, 27-32 psi).
