Turbo Help

Ok, my brother had a 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo with some big intercooler, k29 turbo, Gembala exhaust, and sweet strosek body kit and wheels, and this wastegate, when you were behind him or saw him go by, when he would shift it would have this crazy crack sound like a loud bang/crack sound, it sounded bad ***, more bad *** than bovs imo, now i seen on mvpmotorsports.com that they have a bunch of hks wastegates and such, if i wanted that sound what would i need?

So you want your EVO to sound like a 15-year-old air-cooled Porsche? A loud bang/crack sound at shift... that's not the wastegate, probably just extremely retarded timing. My external makes no cracking/banging noises at all, in fact, you can still hear the bov because as soon as I lift of the gas the wastegate shuts.

But i was told that changing your waste gate and running high boost makes that sound. But w/e im not sure i just thought it was cool because it was somthing different for a change.

I'm afraid you were told wrong. First of all, the wastegate on the EVO is integral and the ONLY way changing it would make any other noise is if you switched to an external, which would just make the sound of the exhaust coming out of the turbo with no muffler or anything. The banging/cracking sound you're talking about is likely fuel being ignited after the exhaust valve has been open, which can be caused by retarded timing ala anti-lag.
