Help with Whine!!

I've had a death whine before and it was my tranny. I replaced that but I still have a whine. It's not super loud or anything but it's there.

Ok here is the details:

it happens at around 65-80 MPHs and only when I'm on the throttle. When I let off the gas It stops whinning. When I press the clutch it stops whinning.

And when I go past 80 Mphs the noise seems to faint away. When i speed up it seems like it gets a little louder but then after 100mphs or so it just faints away.

My mechanic said It might be a accesory pulley making the whine. Any ideas? Please help.

I have the same exact thing, but the whine only comes when I left off the gas from like 80-75 and let it come down to 65-60, after it decelerates past 60 it has faded away. I have no idea what it is.

its is very noisy down there and possible that this is just normal, the whine occurs durring accelaration on the freeway but doesnt really last too long and decel for me too also when cruising at low speeds in low gears.

If you posted what kind of car you have then the people on this forum may be of more help. It could be several things from being "normal" per say to possibly being a bad transfer case,or wheel bearing or some kind of transmission related issue to......... See where I am going with this, and that is if you own and Evo.

Oh i'm sorry I havent been on here for a while and since then the Evo X has also joined the forum.

I have a Evo IX MR.
I have ruled out the tranny since it's a Brand new 5 speed from shep. LIke I said I had the crazy loud Death whine before. But this is not that bad.

I tested it out again today and it seems like it's only in 4rth and 5th gear at low - mid rpms. And is very sensitive to throttle. However when I'm on full throttle the sounds disapears. So basically it's from 65-90 mphs where I hear this whine and only when on the gas at low-mid throttle. Not on Decel or when the clutch is engaged.

Does that sound like a Throw out bearing or a noisy pulley/belt?

This is a video I found of the death whine. this is how Mine used to sound. And it was the crappy 6 speed that went out on me.

This video is a transfer case whine. As you can see it's whinning no matter what. On Decel and throttle and it gets louder and louder and louder with speed.

Mine does get louder but it fades away at certain speeds and at WOT throttle. Also not nearlya s loud.

A week before my tc scattered it's guts all over the road a block from my house i had the death whine. However mine would go away when i let off the throttle. It was only there when i was in gear and clutch engaged. However every time i did a pull it would get unbelievably loud until about ~80mph or so. Then it would go away. And fade back in on the way back down past 80.

I know it's not what you want to hear but yea.

I had the whine when i bought the car and got a ridiculous deal on my evo for this and a leaking vc.

Took it to island raceway and on the highway coming back home i noticed it started making a grinding noise upon deceleration. I knew that was it and babied the car off boost all week just to get to work and hopefully bring in a few paychecks to get a tc.

Needless to say i went to a fair with my ex that friday night. And coming back home about a block away that bish locked up at about 20mph on me. I got it to give and had a few buddies come over and help me roll it in my driveway.

Those sounds like symptoms of your transfer case going bad.

I sure hope it's not the transfer case. That's alot of money. Either way i'm going to drive it untill it breaks or becomes unbearable.

I had no idea it was my tcase either until about 2 years after the symptoms started. It wasn't until the tail end of the two years that the symptoms started getting really bad and I had a shop diagnose it.
