I have a similar problem where I am getting a whine from 40-70mph. I know what a tcase whine is and it doesn't sound exactly like that. It also fades away after 70 and only happens in 4th and 5th.

Update.

The whine is still there but it hasnt got louder. I'm just going to run it untill It gets bad. No sense in buying a new TC or sending out to shep if it's ok.

Ive had a whine for almost a year now. Only happens low-mid throttle in 4th gear? My whine is way more high pitched than the video posted.

TC. When was the last time you serviced the gear oil? Recommended is every 15K. If you haven't done a recent service, do it and make sure you are not using anything less than GL5. Even as thick as the gear oil is, that stuff loses viscosity over time. Also, check the recommended torques on the bolts for the TC. Those torques are critical for even loading.

Just my two cents. Take care.

I wasn't able to watch the video at work, but mide sounds the way you described it. The MR's have the RS Tcase, which is made to handle more abuse than the GSR. I also have a shep trans. I beat the heck out of it, whenever I can. Mine sounds like it comes from the rear differential. I'm installing the stage 5 DSS axles, but until something fails, I'm not planning on replacing anything else. I've been told the MR/ RS Tcase, and Diffs rarely fail, do their better construction, but you never know. Maybe some other MR, or RS owners could chime in.

changed it a month ago...Then again a couple days ago with OEM Diaqueen. Noise is still there.

I'm thinking it's the tranny...Anybody else with a upgraded shep trany have more whine?

If it doesnt get louder I dont think it would be the trasnfer care. The car feels and drives great.

I am going to resurrect this thread :$

05 Evo MR, whines in 5th gear only when I'm on the throttle, and it's pretty loud. Have never launched the car, and have only driven it spiritedly and shifted hard a couple dozen times.

I now have a question....

When I did my clutch I only put fluid in 1 area the hole on the front of transmission, and the acd fluid in the front resevoir. I'm hoping I don't have to put fluid anywhere else... I drained fluid out of only 2 places.. I suppose if I missed fluid anywhere the car wouldn't have made it 3000 kms...

With the 6 speed trans is the transfer case built inside of it? and the acd bolts on to it with the drive shaft in it..?
