03 evo 8 clicking on turns and whinning in first deceleration help

I decided to finally launch my o3 evo 8 off the line for the first time. Right away i noticed it pulling to the left. I turned the wheel and it was fine. Now i notice clicking noises when i turn any direction at slow speeds. Especially when accellerating out of first gear. Now when i decelerate only when i put it in first i hear a whining noise. When im in neutral or in any other gear i hear no whinning. I jacked up the car and dont see anything out of the ordinary. When i move the wheels back and forth i hear stuff in the t case. But people say if the t case is bad then it would make the whinning at all times. Im out of ideas. Anyone who can help is appreciated.

there is no way for us to know for sure but you could have blown your power steering pump as far as the clicking goes. and instead of asking our opinions i would just go out and drain my t-case fluid and see if there are metal flakes, if it looks all glittery then your screwed.

I drained the t case fluid already and its fine but only about a half court came out. No shavings. Thwn i drained the trans fluid and iv never seen more shavings on a drain plug. So im assuming 1st gear is gone and i need to rebuild the trans or get a new one. But what about only half a court of fluid coming out the tcase? Is that a problem?

It's probably not an issue with the tcase. Getting only a half quart out is a little less than normal but the capacity of the thing isn't even a full quart and with the small passages inside it would be hard to get it all out. If the capacity is .9 quarts you'd be lucky to get .7 out. It might have not been quite topped off on the last change.

Worm gears inside the diff are gone so i am sure its a Transfer case issue. That year of the Evo 8 were known for the issue you are having.

Sounds like your diff in your tcase is bad. Your tcase won't whine if the diff is the only thing bad. A bad front diff will be like the symtoms you described, a big clunk on slow sharp turn and sometimes it pulls left while slow driving which can be can be stopped by turning the wheel. When it whines, it's your ring and pinion which rotates the diff housing, which your diff is inside that housing in the tcase. I have had my diff replaced and my ring and opinion replaced at seperate times in my tcase. I had messed up my front diff at the strip too. Then 2 years later, I had got the death whine and my ring and pinion gave out on me. If you continue to drive with a bad diff, some tcase fluid may stray out of the tcase from where the driver side axle connects to it like mine did (which is how I found out my tcase was the issue). The stock front diff in the 03 evos are 2-way open limited slip and are known to break over time. Shepard Racing did my tcase and trans. Hope you get her running back to 100% soon.

isn't clicking usually a busted axel? its been a while since i've had to deal with it, but if you're pulling the trans, pull the t-case (since you're having issues with it anyways) and check your axels too.

okay I got a similar problem and it's driving me nuts, I get a sorta grinding noise on hard lefts only. Replaced the driver side axle, half fixed it, still a noise, drained tranny and tcase fluids, they were overall fine, not too many shavings. Took a look at my shock strut and the bottom part holding the spring seems to have a rub mark from the tire. Is it possible that it might be the shock or shock bearing? It is odd the mark is on the driver side only and it makes noise on left turns when right side is loaded.

I have to make hard lefts to hear it, and it's coming from the driver side it sounds like.

I do have an open front diff and I'm wondering about more of these symptoms of it going bad. Would a bad diff only make noise turning left only? and HARD ONLY, if I go slow it can not make the noise.

I read as much as I can elsewhere, and sometimes they said the dealer fixed it in 15 minutes and refused to tell what the problem was. Which makes me assume it can possibly be just a loose bolt in the suspension as well.

I also know it is not swaybar endlink clicks, I know that noise cuz I had it before.

And also my car feels different on the freeway like I can feel the bumps up and down more through the steering. Would having an undertorqued strut bar and struts cause this issue? I doubt it but I'm open to whatever now. If it's my front diff then damn, pretty pricey fix. I got 85k miles by the way.

I changed my axles and am still having the problem. Im waiting for a new trans to come. All the shops said they dont think it was the t case and think the problem is in the trans. But im prepared to but a t case as well if the problem is still here when im done. But like i said. Changed both axles n clicking on turns is still happening

There are bearings in the top of the strut mounta that go bad. Check them for play
