Vibrations! Help, need advice!
Vibrations! Help, need advice!
All,
Tis the season for snow. At least the NE Coast. We got hit hard. I was pulling out of my garage and into the blizzard to get some shopping done. The car was driving fine, but then again, it was all local roads, therefore I was going no faster than 40mphs. However, yesterday I went onto the highway and started to get above 60mphs and noticed the steering wheel to vibrate. It got worst and worst as the speed increased but calmed down when I decelerated below 60mphs.
I assumed, it several possibilities:
1. My alignment is off and I should my tires rebalanced/aligned.
2. Snow packed in the tire-well?
3. I'm FUBAR
Thanks for the advice mates.
Cheers,
Chug

Sounds like you got snow packed in your wheels most likely causing them to be off balance. I had the same thing the other day in the snow once I got up to speed. Cleared it all out, and everything is all good now
Wheel weights do not usually just fall off. Way more likely to be just snow packed in there. Especially with driving in the snow, then having this happen, and being fine the day before.
Although if the car has been in a garage and the snow is all melted and there isn't any there, then you will need to get the wheels re-balanced as the snow could have knocked off a sticky weight if you have them.

lmao...no. i clearly stated the balancing was thrown off. if the snow melted and all is good, fantastic he needs to do nothing. if the snow melted and the vibration as he described is STILL there...id say yes they need to be balanced again.
make sense now? lol
he resolved the problem anyway...or so it sounds.
