I had a red, sold it, and am now working on a HTA3582 or 86...... I wanted more top end power, and the challenge of improving spool with a 35r...
I was inspired by TedBs T4 build and the claims of 20psi by 4000rpm....

This whole "my RED beats my friends HTA 35R car" is retarded. I can't tell you how many 65+ pound/min turbo's cars I've beating with sub 40 lb/min 16g sized turbos.

Does that mean that 40lb/min sized turbo is a better turbo?

Hell no. It just means some people can't setup or drive a car to save their life. If you aren't truly maxing out the RED and driving the hell out of the car, a GT35R probably won't go any faster. If you are pushing the limits of the car, driver, and turbo, that GT35R based turbo is going to spank the hell out of the RED.

BUT FOR THE AVERAGE GUY, a RED is probably going to be the better choice.

If your going to upgrade get the HTA 86. No red is ever going to flow anywhere near as much as it lol.

it looks like they're just trying to get the red to it's full potential before moving on to another project
I think that this is spot on. Look at their history of stock appearing turbos. White, Green, Red, Black. I think the red has its spot but it is not next to a 35r. A 35r has more top end better suitted to a high revving car than the red. The red spools faster but can not ultimately flow the same volume/psi. As said before a trade off. I upgraded my red to the new 80mm comp. I love it and would not go back to the old one. I can not wait to see what is next...

HaHa it's a wonder there is any metal left. It's tedious but kinda fun in a sick sort of way to port stuff.

Well there are to many factors in this thread... IC size, TB size, IM, tuner, What turbo kit, motor build, 2.3l, 2.0l ect ect... Thats why a red does so well unders some conditions in comparison. Just like big cams if you dont have the head work to allow for more flow, the bigger cams are doing no better than a smaller cheaper set of cams with less lift and duration.

If money was not an issue and every thing was built full tilt. No one should, or could argue that the Red is greater than the 35R including spool. The 35R (HTA especially) is far more capable of making more power than the red period.

As for response My 2.3L twin scroll 35R (soon to be HTA) Is that of a stock 9 turbo! (AFI kit! ) And being T4 1.06 housing topend does not hurt a bit. But once I get HTA plus bigger TB my response and top end should be even greater.

Quit comparing apples to oranges, cause its dumb. If your limited on money and want to go faster, go red. If money isnt an issue, dont halfass it and go all out!
