Who has upgraded FROM a RED and what did you go with+why
Well there are to many factors in this thread... IC size, TB size, IM, tuner, What turbo kit, motor build, 2.3l, 2.0l ect ect... Thats why a red does so well unders some conditions in comparison. Just like big cams if you dont have the head work to allow for more flow, the bigger cams are doing no better than a smaller cheaper set of cams with less lift and duration.
If money was not an issue and every thing was built full tilt. No one should, or could argue that the Red is greater than the 35R including spool. The 35R (HTA especially) is far more capable of making more power than the red period.
As for response My 2.3L twin scroll 35R (soon to be HTA) Is that of a stock 9 turbo! (AFI kit!
) And being T4 1.06 housing topend does not hurt a bit. But once I get HTA plus bigger TB my response and top end should be even greater.
Quit comparing apples to oranges, cause its dumb. If your limited on money and want to go faster, go red. If money isnt an issue, dont halfass it and go all out!

This whole "my RED beats my friends HTA 35R car" is retarded. I can't tell you how many 65+ pound/min turbo's cars I've beating with sub 40 lb/min 16g sized turbos.
Does that mean that 40lb/min sized turbo is a better turbo?
Hell no. It just means some people can't setup or drive a car to save their life. If you aren't truly maxing out the RED and driving the hell out of the car, a GT35R probably won't go any faster. If you are pushing the limits of the car, driver, and turbo, that GT35R based turbo is going to spank the hell out of the RED.
BUT FOR THE AVERAGE GUY, a RED is probably going to be the better choice.

I couldn't have said it any better.
For instance. In the 1/8, I ran a 7.5 @ 99 (1.78 60') with my fully built 35r setup in my talon on 27psi (when I didn't know how to drive). I ran a 7.81 @ 88 with my evo on a stock VIII turbo @ 22 psi (1.64 60ft) with just cams, exhaust, and aluminum driveshaft (when I learned how to drive). When I install my red and get it tuned I will easily surpass my times with the 35r. But if I knew how to drive better when I had my talon, I defnitely would have gone faster.

Money is not always key. I myself am from a V8 back ground. Knowing way better then to invest an obscene amount on a car that will not get faster then 9's is a waste of time and effort for me.
Red on my Evo, cause it is still a driver that hauls my kids and me around.
Big money build will be a turbo v8. No point in ****ing around with a baby motor and trying to go fast. With a boosted v8 you look to run 7-8 range and still drive that **** around.
So this arguement could go all over.
It is a choice and you have decide what makes you pick the route.

I was talking about going big turbo, dont go cheap on the supporting mods, which a lot tend to do that's why a red is even being compared. Not saying its bad just that a 35r takes more supporting mods to make more power than the red. As for the v8 comment that's is true for a all out drag car but not nearly as practical for a road racer, chances are a ttv8 will have to much pwr that traction is a issue.
is it an atp gold??
good to see some results good luck.
