You have to be super super careful with threading them in, pull the battery, battery tray, and the brackets beneath that to get a clear shot at it, and you could hypothetically take even more stuff off than that to make it even easier. You want to make sure you're going in straight or you'll snap it off, they aren't all that strong, and if you break one off in there you'll need some good luck to get it out.

Just take your time and make sure you've got easy access and it should work.

Just a clarification, if you plan on using an aftermarket gauge (electric oil press.) you should get the two prong socket? From all I have read the single prong is just for the dummy light? Thanks to anyone who can clear the air.

AutoZone also rents the special socket out on their loaner tool program

I have a 2003 Evo 8 with 170,XXX miles....I just started experiencing this symptom after the engine warms up (no flicker at start up or for the first few minutes). It goes away at around 1,500 RPM once the engine is at normal operating temps.

I picked up an oil pressure switch at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $11.98 / Import Direct Part # 18-1568

I'll be putting this in over the weekend and I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.

Pic of what I got:

I also have been having this problem as of late. It seems as if when i come to a stop and the a/f leans for a second the light starts to flicker unless i give it a bit of gas.
I went to autozone and bought a new sensor and installed it last night. I am still having the same problem. My oil needs to be changed but it is full. I dont know what to do.

I just bought my evo a week ago and started experiencing this problem a few days after purchase. I changed the oil and will be doing the sensor here shortly. Crossing my fingers it fixes it. Ive been super paranoid about driving lately because of it.

That's correct. I'm doing mine tonight. You can't fit a socket though...

Reviving thread

My oil light flickers basically when the car is idling low due to a lot of electrical load (ac, defrost, headlights) but goes away once rpms go up, it just started to do this a few days ago, maybe a week
Rpms drop from like 1100 to 900 when all the electrical load is on

Is this the same symptom that everyone else has prior to replacing sensor? Flickers at low rpm, then goes away while driving?

Car drives and pulls great still tbh lol
And yes oil is topped off, a smidge over the full mark

I have a new sensor and tool, need to find some time to do it...
