how to get rid of boost loss???

just bought an 04 evo 8 with vishnu turbo back exhaust and a k and n open filter, other than that stock..

upon reading as well as very much so noticeing, boost falls on its face in higher rpm..... I understand that this is an Evo thing....but how do I fix it?... I have built my share of boosted hondas so the the mitsu thing is new to me....

I have read that the timing is retarded a ton on these.... what do I need to do?
cam gears?
tuning?
cams?

what did you do to fix this?

You can minimise the amount of drop by running a bigger initial spike, but really the only cure is a bigger turbo. In order to get 23psi by 7600 I am currently spiking 31 at peak torque of instance.

ECU tuning may have an indirect bearing on this problem, depending on the method of boost control employed. However, ignition timing, cams, and/or cam gears(cam timing) are not directly related to boost taper. Ths would hold true for Hondas as well as Tri-Star vehicles.

start with a boost controller then a tune and finally a stiffer actuator if the former two doesn't work

I changed out the restrictor pill to hold more boost. Then I toned down wastegate duty to run 15-18 pounds. But at higher ends when it would taper i set it back to 100 % so i never lost boost.

so essentially the 16g is being out breathed by the engine, right? I ran into a similar problem on an integra that had a small t3... In 3rd gear it would fall on its face.....

so in theory, I throw a larger turbo on....run, lets say 20 lbs(based on the stock nature of the car), and I should resolve this issue.

would porting the manifold or upgrading IC pipes help?

Im sorry for the newb questions.....I just know that more boost is not always the answer for more power

Benjurman: Do you have a boost gauge installed? Does the car have a manual boost controller? How do you control/adjust boost on your car?

the housing gets over run and the boost drops off because of the wastegate! Yes a bigger turbo like 3076, 35r would solve this problem. Ive seen multi evo reds run 30 psi all the way through the gear!

Yours is an ´04 Evo right? I was just wondering whether your turbo might not be configured wiith a 9.8 cm housing? But, I guess that all ´04 USDM Evo's came with the 10.5 housing, right?

No all 03 and 04 Evo 8 came with the 9.8 housing. The 05-06 came with the 10.5 hotside.

there is no boost guage or controller on the car.... the problem is not "PSI" persay, its flow, or volume of air...

I am wondering if a lower IC pipe/ MR BOV (for ****s and giggles) and replace the factory rubber hoses would HELP my issue?
