Changing shifter base bushings on an MR

I was trying to install shifter base bushings (the ones on on the console in the cabin) on my MR, and was using the excellent instructions on Evo Motorsports web site as a guide:
http://evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tPath=4&tech_id=3

However, I'm having a little trouble on step 9.

It says the following:
Using pliers, remove the cotter pin holding the shifter cable to the side of the linkage. Pull the cable off and move down and under the shifter to gain clear access to the front, left bracket bolt.
but the accompanying graphics do not seem to match what I actually see, presumably cos they were done for the 5spd?

So I guess the problem I have is how to loosen the bracket enough to get the stock bushings out. Any hints?

Thx.

It's been forever since I did this (I have an MR) but I remember gently twisting the base and removing/installing the bushings by feel.

the MR has only a cotter pin on the cable on the side of the shifter, remove that, for the lower cable, it has a connection that you must "open" the clip to remove the cable.. You will see what I mean when you look at it

thanks for the tips, guys. it just slides off the post.

the first pic in dxbtune's post was helpful, since it is also for an MR:
