Evodan, do you mean an impact socket with a torque wrench? Hope so.

 

Sorry, but I thought the L19s were a larger diameter and required machine work....I must have been wrong....Add that to the list ...

 

It's been a while (you can try searching my name and L19's) since i posted about installing mine a year+ ago.

I could have sworn that the instructions i got from AMS/Titan Motorsports said to go in 3 increments up to 92lbs.

I remember for sure it was in the 90's just not exactly sorry

Funny how i bought these figuring i could re-use them and i have yet to seperate the head from block since it went together

By the way for the 12 point socket i use a deep 3/8" w/ to 1/2" adapter as it can be tight to fit a thicker impact socket in some spots.

 

Now that you mentioned I did have to grind some of the washers off a bit on the outside to let them sit flush.
Bad idea to use a 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor in this application.
I have no problem using the 1/2" extension from HarborFreight though .:}

i didn't realized these were L19's. I got interested, so I called ARP

L19 head studs come in two different diameters 11mm & 12mm.

11mm require 90-95lbs tq
12mm require 110lbs tq
(as long as you're using ARP lube)

So it depends on the length of the head studs.

PatrickB - Are the L19s a different diameter ? Do you have to machine work and open up the holes in the head gasket ?

 

The ones i got had no special install instructions i just sprayed them w/ some brakleen and installed to 90 ft/lbs w/ arp lube like mentioned above

 

Are you sure thats accurate.. 11 and 12mm Length??? I think the older DSM uses a different thread pitch and 11mm and the evo uses 12mm diameter or vice versa..

Just so others are clear, these are not normal ARP Head Studs, these are the 300 dollars for a set suckers...

Its the 4G63 1994 & later uses M11. Anything less is M12.
I'm not sure if the L19 is different. Its not a part they stock on the shelf.

Ok, i knew they were different from Older Gen 4g63.. the length is the same though.. The 11mm and 12mm is diameter..

The difference between the 11mm and the 12mm studs is not in LENGTH, it's in DIAMETER. The DSM 6-bolt motors used the 12mm studs. The Evo and 2nd gen DSMs use the 11mm studs.

The ARP 11mm L19 studs run about $219.00 from several vendors you can easily find with Google.

 

If my build was as serious that it would require L19s i wouldn't use the 1x1 method.If any oil is the threads you run the chance of cracking the block.
