Blow off valve stuck closed

Ok.. I didn't drive my evo for about 6 or 7 months and took it out and noticed the BOV was stuck closed.. it only had about 1000 miles on it and was pretty new. I took it off and noticed it was still lubed from the factory, but I took it apart anyways and relubed it myself.. Its still really hard move back and forth and is still stuck closed when in the car.. ANY help??? It's a turbosmart BOV.. and yes I tried loosening all the way to "soft", and it did nothing.. Please HELP!!! thanx

Same thing happened to mine after my last deployment. you have it VTA not recircd' right? First off I set mine to recirc which kept it from getting all the build up on the vent. I took mine apart by unscrewing the top then I took a wire brush and steel wool to the piston and scrubbed it and the BOV housing I lubed it very lightly with some oil put it back together and I have had no problems since. But since I am currently deployed AGAIN, I guess I will find out if it seized up again when I get home. I am guessing it will be fine since its recircd' and the cap off plate keeps the gunk dirt and moisture off the piston.

should have mentioned that idriveanevo thanks. i put mine in a vice wrapped in a towl be careful. then i took two hammers, i put one with the wood part on the piston and hit the top of that hammer with the other until it broke loose. if you decide to use the cap off plate i will warn you now the bov horn has 4 allen head screws and they are a biotch to get off be careful and take your time or you will strip them.

Yes I took it apart and scrubbed the inside, it was all rusty.. It was nearly impossible to move at first.. had to beat it with a hammer almost as hard as I could.. greased a the crap out of it inside and out, it moves a alot easier, but still seems way too hard for the car to push open.. and yes its VTA..
And i just unscrewed the spring cap and beat the piston out, because I didn't even want to try to remove those 4 screws by the horn

i have the same issue and am going to try try sanding a small amount with really fine grit sand paper, but do any of you have a pic of how to install it (does the bov piston face down to the turbo or to the side?)

I'll post a pic in a bit.. if you have the same BOV as me then it's an easy set up.

If you have cleaned and scrubbed it properly it should move up and down freely with no effort. Continue to scrub/sand/wire/wirebrush it until it does so. I would not reinstall or drive the car until this happens because you will have compressor surge issues on throttle lift and you can damage the shaft on the turbo if this happens under high boost throttle lift. As for the comment on how the BOV is facing I am sure this happened becasue the BOV was facing towards the vent in the hood that is what caused the rust and gunk build up. Do yourself a favor and put the cap off plate on so this will not happen again! I would hate to see another EVO go down because someone wanted to hear the "PSSSHT" sound every time they shift. By the way if your not using a blowthrough MAF or have the proper tune for VTA you are actually hurting your perfomance for a "sound". After reading multiple articles on this subject I have found that you actually hold more boost in between shifts when you are recirculated(capped off). I have the same BOV on my IX recirculated with full hard pipes and intake and every time I shift it is loud as $h1t, so if you are really looking for that sound you will still have it to some degree. If you need any more help with this just ask.
