HKS 280's will be fine with stock springs and retainers. GSC S2's should be fine with stock springs and retainers as long as you observe the stock rev limit. I'd say go with the S2's.

HKS 280's are not necesarily more "aggressive" than Cossie M2's, the GSC S2's, or the Kelford 272's. No, they are not! You cannot just base relative duration comparisons on different manufacturer's claimed duration specs, if that is what you are going by. For the duration measurements to be comparable they would have to be taken at the same minimum lift.

S2s are nice. i have a set of 272s in my garage. but i would choose cosworth or kelford

side question...for cossie 272s on stock springs/retainers, what would be a safe rpm to rev it up to? i was told 8000 rpm. but i wanted to verify that.
