Update:
When I started the car last night before I left, and got gas, the car at idle has a slight rough idle now...

Drove the 200 miles last night after work, burnt about 1/2 - 3/4 of a quart, if the dip stick reads right. Did a check on the exhaust with a paper towl, and slight oil or wetness comes from the exhaust, but not water, and not gas... So assuming oil. Hand feels a little slimy.

Exhaust manifold loosened again, and oil resedue on top of manafold. More oil on the side of motor where the cam sensor is. Mechanic is digging today. Going to a barage of tests. Compression, leak down, and what ever other tests you can run, etc.
If it turns out they pull the head for any reason, cam upgrade going in. If it is the shaft seal in the turbo and im pushing it out the exhaust, then a Turbo upgrade is going in.
Report back when I know more.

All engines burn oil. My car shows zero oil consumption at 3000 miles. The reason: there is enough accumulated unburnt gas, sludge and dirt in the oil to keep the volume the same.

did you say a manifold stud is missing? cuz the whole that is tapped for them goes all the way into the head so oil could easily be coming from there , I doubt that much but you never no

I know this was a few years back but what was your ultimate outcome? Where was the oil going? How was compression how was the leak down test etc?

I don't use Mobil One, but at 3,000, when I pull the dip stick, there is no noticeable drop in level.

Also interested in knowing what the outcome for the OP was in this case, I seem to smell burnt oil too but no smoke, I use about 1/2qt every 150-200miles, which is a bit excessive.
