TOB keeps coming off pressure plate

What would cause my pressure plate and tob to keep seperating? It happens when I go to shift really fast. It happened the first time and when I got it towed home I was able to get the tob to snap back into the pressure plate and then the day after I was leaving school and went to shift from 3rd to 4th using NoLiftToShift. I assumed it was something either in the pressure plate or tob so today I ordered a clutch rebuild kit, pressure plate and tob from exedy. BTW I have an Exedy Twin Disc HD clutch.

It's within the fingers of the wedge collar. The small fingers need to be bent inwards slightly. With the gearbox off, take the wedge collar and clean it of grease, carbon, dust and clean the TOB with WD40. Inspect the TOB inner sleeve with the groove. Make sure it is not gunked up with grease, etc. Now, do test fits of the wedge collar and TOB. Press it on with your fingers. Don't be afraid, for it will come off with the screwdriver behind it (access from top or bottom). If it is snug (check to make sure it is snug all the way around by turning the TOB and try pulling the wedge collar ), remove the wedge collar (if it is not of uniform fit, check the fingers again; they all need to have the same inward angle). Check the long fingers, as well. As a complete unit, the wedge collar's long fingers act as a secondary grip on the TOB. Give the long fingers a slight inward bend, but not too much. While you are at it, check the "teeth" on the long fingers. make sure they are flared outwards. Also, check the ring that is part of the assembly (the one that acts as a lock in the PP for the long fingers). make sure it is not damaged and clean.

Once you are satisfied, assemble everything again. Pull the lever towards the engine and let it go on its own. The proper lever position should be just prior to the half way point. Now, take and try to push the lever with your hand towards the engine. If it is properly installed (the wedge collar/TOB assy), there's no way you are gonna be able to push it over. If it does slam back to the left, remove it all again and repeat the steps. I just completed this job last night. Someone had installed a wedge collar assembly wrong on a friend's car with the same problem as you. I fixed it just the way I described to you

If all else fails, buy a new wedge collar assembly.

Since you already bought a rebuild kit and other stuff, keep it or sell it if the fix I just gave you works. Good luck
