Stuck TOB

I'm currently doing a clutch job and I'm at the point where you stick a screwdriver into the inspection hole to pop off the throw out bearing. The problem is it will not pop off no matter what I try.

Does anyone have a "Plan B" for how to get the TOB off?

You really just have to work at it. As your turn the flathead, slowly release the arm so it comes back as you're releasing the TOB. It took me about 30 minutes to finally get it off.

Practice with your new pressure plate and TOB.

I had the same problem. The problem is that if whomever did the previous install did not use an OEM TOB. The OEM TB has an internal sleeve that prevents it from sticking to the shaft. I ended up having to unbolt the PP...and cut the damn thing off....

If you rotated the crank, you can unbolt the pressure plate one bolt at a time, there are six i believe, then you just take the tranny out with the pressure plate to get at it with the tranny removed..... Right now I have an aftermarket TOB and Some time it's REAL hard to get my tranny into gear when I start my car! Stick with an OEM piece.

if you cant get the TOB off in the first couple tries... its not comin off. Dueces has it right... rotate the crank and feel for the 6 bolts... you have to feel throught the small service hole in the tranny. it takes a second to find the best way of doing it, but once you know how... you can have the whole thing off in less than 20 mins. hope it works out for ya.

or, in 90% of the times i cant get the TOB off just by turning the screwdriver, i stick the screwdriver in, and rotate the crank at the same time as i twist the screw driver. usually 1-2 revolutions of the crank and the TOB pops loose. the other 10% the PP has to be unbolted.

1. pull back clutch fork
2. insert screwdriver between TOB and retainer
3. turn screwdriver while gently releasing the clutch fork
4. with screw driver twisted, either the TOB will come loose and clutch for will release all the way to passenger side of hole or:
5. keep screwdriver twisted
6. rotate crank over until TOB releases
