i needed a new water pump for my rebuild so i went up the street to pepboys.

my question for you guys is does anyone see or ever had a problem using a non-oem mitsubishi waterpump?

there shouldnt be a quality difference right?
i quess im just looking for reassurance that i have nothing to worry about.
all input welcome, thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what brand you'll be putting in, but at my job our supplier (NAPA) usually sends us Bosch water pumps and alternators. A fair amount fail again, but they're covered by a lifetime warranty, so its not like you're paying for replacements constantly. If you're going to go the aftermarket route, I would make sure whatever you get has a lifetime warranty. If not, go OEM.

I cant comment on the quality of non oem waterpumps but if it were me I would stick to the factory waterpump. Not saying this is necessarily a bad thing but I believe things like waterpumps and alternators from pep boys auto zone etc. are refurbished/recycled units. This doesnt mean there crappy but they may have a higher failure rate. Even if they come with a lifetime warranty its still going to cost you if you need to replace it. Swapping waterpumps isn't a fun job. Not to mention the fact that if it fails and you dont notice it a first your car could overheat, blow a headgasket, crack/warp head really anything. So if it were me I would just get an oem waterpump and call it a day.

The Bosch water pumps are new, but the alternators are rebuilt. But those are good points. Alternators aren't too bad to replace, but a water pump is pretty annoying if its going to happen multiple times, not to mention the risk.

Whatever reputable brand you decide to get, make sure it has a decent warranty.

That's my point. I am in no way bashing the quality of the waterpumps because I have no first hand experience with any of those but i do know that replacing the waterpump isnt the most fun. That plus what if it does fail? Sure you will get a new waterpump for free but what about your other engine components that were affected by the lack of cooling?
