New Gates water pump leaking

Hello guys. Yesterday, we installed with my brother (the mechanic of my car) a new gates water pump, and when we turn on the engine it was leaking (picture attached). I dont know if we installed incorretc the water pump (we hope so), bad fabrication of the water pump, or what? Today, I will check the water pump, but I want it to ask you guys, what do you think the causes? Any experiencie with gates water pump?

What do you think?

I've got a gates pump on my car and its sealing fine. Which part number did you have for the pump? I see you have a 4g64 so it required a different pump but I can't comment on which one specifically. I know the info is somewhere on these boards...or you ripped the gasket getting it on there? Those are my two thought but Im guessing you have the wrong pump

Hey thanx for your answer.

Well, the part number is 42577 (for Evo 2003-2005). I didnt remember if I use the 4g64 water pump or 4g63. My brother told me that has a problem with the install but not the big deal. I will check the gasket and looking if the water pump fit in 4g64 block.

you can use a 4g63 pump on a 4g64 block, but you need a spacer to keep the car from leaking, so it seals.

^Well there's your answer. I think the waterpump for an outlander or maybe galant not sure of the years though but one of those that works. Search on here though as I know the info is out there. But yeah the 42577 is the same one I used on my VIII so without the spacer its going to leak.

Galant won't work. I have one a galant so I tried it, and although it bolts right up to the 4g64, it throws off everything for the belt. Evos have one serpentine belt, galants have 2, one for the water pump and alt, the another for the rest, so its offset is different. I changed my 4G64 to an evo setup, so I had to use an evo 8 water pump with a MAP waterpump spacer for it to work. Not one leak either, works pretty good.

Outlander works, I don't know which years. I have seen it on here, so it is searchable

My gates wp worked fine. I replaced all my timing components with gates products. No issues.
