HELP! no 6th gear!?!?

does anyone have any idea what this could be...i cant even get into 6th gear on my MR..no matter how hard i try it doesnt even grind or anything. it just wont budge..i was driving it pretty hard but that was in the low gears and all the sudden i cant get into 6th gear..i thought it was because the tranny may have been to hot but i let it sit overnight and still no 6th gear?!?

Can you engage it with the car off?

Try removing the battery (and tray) and disconnecting the 2 shift cables from the tranny. Before you do though check to see how the cables move when you try to put it in 6th. Then you can try moving the levers around by hand to see if it's an alignment problem. Maybe your cable bushings or something is out of whack. If you still can't get it in 6th with the cables detached then I guess it's an internal tranny issue

Good luck!

I have the same problem actually, although I can still put it into 6th(with great effort) when I'm going like 70 on the highway. It's a job taking it out of 6th as well. Very strange coincidence. I was told it's an internal problem =[.

Sounds like your shifter cables are loose, or the plate that holds them.
