I had the S2's in my 03 Evo 8, you can do a search on my name and see comparision DLL graphs from stock cams to S2 cams on a stock (small) 03 turbo.

I loved that setup and will do it again when I get another evo.

how about a third one 230@1mm. I just had our websites updated.

In the past we have done 225 228 and 235 using the same CL, peak lift, and total dur... i'm pretty happy with the 230s we have been selling for the last month or so. we have been seeing some really big gains from customers on the top end compared to the 228s.

Here is the cam card of the present S2.

Intake:
.004" Lift: 274 Duration
.040" Lift: 230 Duration
Peak Lift: 11.2mm
IVO 8 BTDC
IVC 42 ABDC

Exhaust:
.004" Lift: 274 Duration
.040" Lift: 230 Duration
Peak Lift: 11.0mm
EVO 48 BBDC
EVC 2 ATDC

Greg-

I just built up my Evo and am sticking with the Cosworth M2's on my 9. I am running an FPRed turbo.

Would the current S2 cams give me a beefier powerband over the M2's. I'm not looking for peak power as I have enough of that.

Opinions?

Yes and I will have the dyno graphs up to prove it. The S2 with a Red is worth almost 25whp peak over the Cossies and spool the Red almost TOO fast in comparison.

I'm not 100% sure on the Cosworth specs and they have taken them off the website. So i can't give you a good opinon.

I have some M3 specs in front of me. The exhaust cams are going to be the same, but Cosworth doesnt seem to understand there is duration difference between 1mm and .050, so they have it printed as the same:

Specs on 272 exhaust

Lift- 11mm
EVO- 36 BBDC
EVC- 5 ATDC
Lobe center- 114*
Duration- 221

They list the M3 intake as such (280* advertised)
Lift- 11.6mm
IVO- 14 ATDC
IVC- 60* ABDC
Lobe center- 131*
Duration- 226*

I would surmise that the 272 intake (M2) is going to be generally similar to the M2 exhaust over all.

Might want to email cosworth and tell them there cam card is incorrect either the opening and closing events are wrong or the duration and CL is. given the openning and closing events you posted the following would be true of the CL and 1mm Duration .

Intake
.040" Duration is 226
Centerline: 127

Exhaust
.040" duration is 221
CL of 105.5

M3s versus S2s. As you can see the S2s are all over the M3s. This car had no other changes other than cams, it is 31psi on a Red on E85.

Idle will be a bit more choppier than the S1's but nothing too exaggerated. I currently have the S1's in my personal car and S2's in a built 2.0 and the S2's has that better top end all over. Idle in both cars are awesome with the S2's giving you a more power appeal.

How is the spool on both cars. Are you giving up too much low end with the S2 over the S1?
