I have found with years of expereinece with Shep that you can reach him or his new associate by phone every day - the guy have given up his racing so he dedicates all his time to the trans business and he is there every day

To the OP - call Shep and he will tell you why it is taking so long - he is a very honest and stand up guy

I want the best which is why i went with Shep....just the expectations set based on turnaround times is a little frustrating. I would like to drive my car.

*sigh*. I need to just man up call John and talk with him directly.
I think in this case following your wife's advice is good advice - seriously

Making a post like this on the interent is not going to produce any resolution

shep experience

I just want to say that I'm not bashing on anybody. I sent my 1991 DSM AWD to shep due to a questionable rebuild from Jack's. Now, I understand things happen and the inevitable from racing your car, stuff breaks. My experience was that I got my tranny from Jacks and the 3-4 fork broke after the rebuild. Which is unfortunate and he replaced free of cost. This put me about 2 weeks behind and shipping. No worries. I install the tranny and reverse doesn't work. He offered me to take my tranny back and look into the problem. But, I decided to take it to the local guy figuring it'll be something simple. Mistake, maybe. Guy can't figure out why reverse won't go in but fwd goes just fine. So, I used up the tranny until it broke about 10 months later and decided to go with Shep. He took about 7 weeks and I'm not going to lie but I did get anxious. After a somewhat demanding e-mail from me, Joh was somewhat snobish. But after a couple of e-mails everything was cleared up. My tranny was delayed because of the over 60 transmissions standing by to get work done. I'm sorry, that's a butt ton of work and there is a reason for it. After looking at my tranny, he called me and in detail explained to me what was in that tranny. All I'm going to say is that some things were done wrong to John's standards and some parts were not the right ones. I will not say that Jack is a bad businessman or that his tranny's suck. My car did go very fast for these months that the Jacks tranny was in it. Just didn't go into reverse. The're are plenty of people that have had great experiences with him. I thought my Jacks build was a good build to a certain extent. Ultimately, things do break and I will let you know about my experience with Shep when I get my car running.

I had my DSM trans built by Shep a couple years ago and it took like 2 weeks during the busy season. Hopefully you get it back soon, but it will be worth the wait.

I've only heard good things about TRE and Dog Box too.

bumping up a month old thread haha.

OP -- how did it turn out in the end?

I have called shep for STUPID simple questions like - Do u have this clutch in stock? This flywheel? How long is your current turn around....

And truth be told - I feel like an *** when the man him self answer to tell me "yes - we have XXXX twin disk in stock and current wait time is about 3 weeks"

Really -- Did John him self need to answer the phone to tell me that? ... No. Does he.. yes.

x2.

They are by far the most underrated evo/dsm shop around. They have the best prices, do great work and have excellent customer service. Why people, especially locals, pay to ship their Trannys and Transfercases some where else is beyond me.

Check them out guys.

Well to sum it up. We would not have told someone a week on a trans this time of year. There may have been confusion about a transfer case being done in that time which is about right.

The simple fact is that we are extremely busy but we are working harder than ever and working more hours than ever to try to get on top of it. You cannot just simply hire a few guys off the street to speed things up and keep quality control up. We did hire a new service manager which has helped tremendously.

To the op I do not know who you are so I cannot find out the exact details (backorder parts etc ?). Please contact me personally at sales@sheptrans.com and you will get an answer the same day.

Haha. We will try to have the car at least in rolling chassis form for the shootout. Working 12+ hours a day leaves little time for the poor thing.

Ill make the drive to see it -- Plus your going to have to teach Dan Eckenrode(dd_man) how to drive his land rocket that you have helped him piece together. Ill be rooming with him and a few other friends when we come out.

One way or another is going to be fun.

I have dealt with Shep MANY times and he is always a pleasure. Everytime there has been a delay it was either because of a bad part I sent him of something on my end causing a problem like when my CC kept declining because of a comp problem at the bank. He was always patient and very upfront and stuck to the schedule. I wish more people worked on cars that deal with shops they would realize that sometimes S**T just happens and no matter how hard you try it results in delays. Would you rather have a rush job pushed out or a quality job? SHEP FTW!!!

I would rather wait and get the job done right. Everyone wait in line. They have hands full, you just have to be more patient. Even if someone tells you it will take 4 weeks be prepared to wait longer, it is not like you paid and they disapeard and you got screwed, your part is in good hands.

Tired of waiting a month? I have to wait sometimes 3 months to get fluids or parts from USA.

Cheer man, John is helpfull and I prefer to wait a bit rather than taking back the goods.

Having a business, I'm having sometimes the same issues with customers. We repair and rebuild outboard engine, customer always want the job to be done in less 12 hours... You can't have the best quality and service like that especially when tearing down and rebuilding a whole unit.

Nowadays people are no more patient
