Oil Leak

Well long story short i have been getting very little leaks, thought it was power steering fluid..... turns out its my mobil 1 synthetic oil. Looked underneath the car, and it seems to be coming from the valve cover, but hard to tell, mechanic at work said it could be a valve cover gasket or a head gasket... any one else have this problem???

have u removed the valve cover in the time u owned had the car? the gasket is re-usable but will leak if not placed properly since its rubbery. dont hold me to this, but it doesnt sound your head gasket is the leak since you would have more serious problems than a simple oil leak...such as burning coolant and the easily noticable coolant/oil mixture. id say check your torque specs on the valve cover bolts and remove it to check the gasket itself...hopefully u get some more responses other than mine..goodluck

hey this is Lucas that deliver those wheels to you. actually I know a someone who install cams himself just had oil leak last week. whoever put in the cams in your evo problem didn't put the seal back properly. seals are reusable, mine were reused when I had cams put in, no leak.

Also check the oil drain plug too. Mine use to leak a little and it's because the old washer is bad. Replaced with rubber washer and now it's free of leaks. If not that then get yourself a new gasket and replace it. Make sure you use hi-temp silicone sealer on the corners. See the How To guide on Installing Cams. GL

make sure you check the turbo oil line on the pan. I had a oil leak and didn't realize where it was coming from until i put the car up on the lift where i could see the oil line on the pan. tightened it up and no more leak.

Glad you still run those tires and wheels.

it's not hard at all to remove the valve cover, just remove all the bolts surrounding it and cam gear cover, that's it.

If you see oil residue on the valve cover seal then it must be from there.

What work have you done recently?

If you did cams or timing belt recently, check the cam seals, valve cover, and hydraulic tensioner.
