Transfer Case Leaking: Passenger's Side

Howdy.

I recently changed my passenger's side axle on a 2003 Evo 8, due to having a torn/destroyed boot. During the removal of the axle, in my haste/inexperience, I managed to "ding the hell out of" the seal on the transfer case.

Basically, the picture I included shows a transfer case, with the area that is now leaking/buggered up circled.

I know am aware of how to remove the axle correctly (ie, don't dig your screwdriver into the rubber and jiggle it all about), but I need to replace the seals/gaskets in the existing transfer case.

Is there a part number/instructions for this? The most difficult part is "removing the damn axle yet again", but, hey, second time is always easier.

I know it's leaking from there for a fact, since, well, you can just see it. It's hilariously leaking. It's not even attempting to stay in .

Thanks!

Remove it with a screwdriver, make sure of not touching the second seal behind.
To take back it up use a tube of the diameter of the seal.

Hope its just the seals...Mine had a hairline crack in it. Kept leaking after replacing the seals.

Had to send it to shep for a built one.

I just noticed that my transfer case started to leak
It's leaking where the rear driveshaft connects to the transfer case.
Does anybody know what seal/gasket do I need to buy ?? Is it hard to install ??
Looks like there are only 4 bolts that hold that rear housing to the transfer case.

Thanks !!

I thought it was the seal on the right side of the transfer. The rear one is sold under the PN: MR581295, you have to disassemble the drive shaft.

i believe you just have to disconnect the drive shaft where it meets the second part of the drive shaft. once you have done this the part of the drive shaft that is connected to the tc could be pulled off.

To replace the rear oil seal you just have to pull of the drive shaft ( disconnect it from the rear diff and unbolt the bearings) , disassemble the dust guard housing. You can also unbolt the alloy housing but it's not the simplest way to do it.
Don't forget to drain the transfer oil before.

Alrighty, I thank you all again for your assistance in finding the part number.

We changed it today, and managed to bang the new seal up again installing it. This was with a PVC pipe piece that was about the right width. In installing it, we managed to chip away some rubber... thus, leaking.

Short of "being more careful, dumbass", is there something we're missing in installing this? The seal is obviously tight enough that it doesn't just "push right in", but is gentle and loving enough that "taking a piece of wood and a hammer to it, and the rage of a thousand Vikings" tends to damage it.

Thanks again!
