From VIII to IX turbo, parts that are needed?

I'm sure this has been discused before but do you think I could find it anywhere... nope. I guess my biggest question is are there any differences between the VIII and IX exh. manifold, do I need to pick up a IX manifold to install a IX turbo on an 8. Also assuming I need an "install kit" with a j pipe and oil lines? Anything else?

Manifold is the same. You'll need different install parts if you're putting it in an VIII. FP has a kit that shows the parts you'll need, just for reference.

If you get the FP install kit you are safe in the future if you decide to convert it to a Red as the FP kit has the larger oil feed line. I would just do it right the first time.

Evo 9 install kit is a complete waste of money. All you need is a evo 9 outlet pipe and you are done.

Some people have interference problems with the VIII outlet pipe and the starter hot side. You should check carefully for that issue if you're not using a IX outlet pipe, as it can short and cause you serious misery...

A new oil line is also a very useful part, as some of the existing lines have corrosion in them, which breaks off and damages the bearings in the turbo...

All of these parts plus the gaskets etc are in the FP kit.

please do yourself a favor and don't skimp on the small stuff... make sure at the minimum you purchase new crush washers for everything... $0.20 part, or pulling everything back apart because you decided to reuse a crush washer....

I was faced with a similar dilemma when I swapped to a IX turbo.

I decided to spend the extra money to make sure everything I put on the car was new and not reused.

But you know, people buy a $20-30k car and want to skimp a few bucks here and there.
