Tip for cranking the engine over without spark or fuel
Thanks to this thread, I'm making sure my FP red comes with the gen2 install kit.
Here's a tip for cranking the engine without spark or fuel. Make a $3 copy of your key. It will trigger the immobilizer and you can crank the engine to build oil pressure. I keep one in my tool box for oil changes.
Lancerdealer posted this awhile back:
When the immobilizer has been activated the ICU does not read the key and it tells the PCM to disable the ignition and the injectors.

If someone knows why this isn't a good idea, please share.

When you crank the engine with no spark, you can flood the cylinders with fuel, which is a bad thing. There is a sensor that you can disconnect toward the back passenger corner of the valve cover that will kill fuel and spark. It's what the factory service manual recommends for doing compression tests. However, I've also read on here from reputable sources that the 4G63 is no small block chevy and that method of priming the oiling system doesn't work very well.
