Just did an Exedy single plate clutch install on my buddy's 2003 Evo 8. Everything is great except that there is a strange noise ONLY when decelerating in 3-5 gear. It sounds like a rattle but almost a grid. Not sure what It could be. Any ideas? Also, It seems to be coming from front driver side.

It doesnt sound good at all. Also its not a multi plate clutch. I have installed a few organic street discs before and never had this problem. I want to verify where this noise is coming from. Its not my car thats making the noise I did it for a friend so he is flippin out cause I dont know what it is. please help me someone

 

Chatter from the exedy is normal. If you read up on the clutches it even states that it does chatter. Even the single plate chatters and the twin is even worse on chattering.

 

Sprung or solid hub?

 

its a sprung hub single disc clutch. Its the stock style organic street disc. I have never seen this before on this kind of clutch. The noise is very audible and you can hear it when you are decelerating next to other cars and surrounding structures. Its LOUD! I want to know for sure if this is ok to be happening. He isnt happy with the sound at all. Thanks ALL

 

I had it done yesterday, the Exedy stage1 w/ Gruppe-S flywheel.
Same results, rattles at deceleration on 4th and 5th gear between 40-60mph.
It is totally annoying.
I'm contacting my machanic to save my stock flywheel, and I know it is the clutch that is the problem.
It is not the result of the install.

Anybody else with the problem!??
