Or, are you revving it past redline?

Are there any other Evo's at these events? Or DSMs? Are they all staying in 1st gear like you?
I highly doubt that guy is staying in first. If its anything like the autoX around here (which most are held by the same people) you almost have to go into third. I hit the rev limiter once in 2nd then had to turn.

I autocross and if I ever upgrade from the stock turbo it will be for a FP White or BBK Lite.

Still, first gear for the whole course doesn't seem right. Whether it's my Evo, my 240SX, or my 1980 Datsun with 50hp, I'm usually in 2nd gear before the first corner. It's hard to imagine a course tight enough to stay in 1st.

I have run autox courses where i have run out of second gear at 7500rpm. Then again our local autox is at an old air force base on mult runways.

Most of your elapsed time in an autocross run is spent in the slowest turns, so if you have a laggy turbo that won't get you out of there and back on boil, you are not going to be competitive at all. I would not go bigger than a Green or a BBK for autocrossing. IMO, having a Red, it's not a competitive autocross turbo.

I have always stuck in 2nd on my cars that I autoxed. I think I might have hit 3rd in a straight away that was big enuff or built enuff boost, but had to jam on the brakes quick and downshift into the turns.
Deff dont run a red for autox if you want a quicker spooling turbo.
I think a green would prob be decent. Mine spools pretty quick.

Keep your stock turbo, autocrossing with a 37r is a hilarious idea seriously.

Get some short route intercooler piping and some other spool up mods and maybe put more money into your chassis.

It is not my expertise, but FWIW, I´d probably do a BBK Lite with a Ti exhaust wheel, or the FP White(which has an HTA comp wheel), likewise with a Ti exhaust wheel. Either turbo configured with a 9.8cm, or 9.0cm exhaust housing. I ran my FP Green with a 9.0cm housing but even with that dinky shell it would seem to be a little slow spooling for Auto-X, IMO. This is probably due to the higher inertia(than even the standard 16G wheel) turbine wheel. Incidentally, I have been toying with the idea of having FP build me a turbo with the Green´s compressor wheel, but mated to the larger turbine wheel used on the Red. This would make for an extremely low backpressure Green with extremely good transient response. No one else seems partial to this "Red/Green", idea though.

Yeah right now i'm stuck between the bbk lite and fp white also...just wish the fp white had more reviews since it cost 200 dollars less the the bbk lite.

I like the FP White, the 52Trim compressor housing really alows for good spool and good top end, I ordered one for my TT and Auto-X car but bought a Red instead.

I've heard good things about both turbos though.. Keep budget in mind, lol

Since Forced Performance has some Tommy Makkinen turbos in stock, I think I'd like that one. Wicked fast spool and it appears to make power throughout the rev range. Didn't Mark Daddio autocross a StreetMod Evo with a TME turbo? And 360+ hp at the wheels? This would be great for my 3600lb brick of an Evo X, if the turbo inlet wasn't an odd shape on my car.

When you've got that much weight, that moment of turbo lag seems to last forever.
