E85 vs C16

hey guys sorry if this has been covered i checked in the advanced section and this section but i fail when it comes to searching so please forgive me ahead of time but is there much of a difference between E85 and c16... im tuned on E85 now and with the drag strip only a few miles from my house i go a lot and was wondering if it would be of any gain to have a new map for when i go to the drags for C16

i thought i heard somewhere that E85 made more power then C16 but not sure how true that is...

thanks guys any helps would be much appreciated

Actually no.

C16 is 116 MON and its leaded. I am not sure that E85 makes more power than C16 but its definitely much much cheaper. I think now for a 5 gallon drum of c16 you need 75 dollars!

E-85 is rated at 105 oct( depending on blend) but some say it works more like 110 due to the cooling effects and knock resistance of the ethanol. c-16 is rated at 117 octane.

The price to performance ratio of E85 makes it increasingly difficult to justify C16, especially given the high cost of C16 and the fact that it will gradually kill your O2 sensors.

And in the OP, with a stock turbo and ~400whp at the wheels, C16 shouldn't even be considered if E85 is available. One Florida car already went 8.9@157 at the dragstrip using E85, so I feel that says enough.

GST Motorsports in the Bay Area continually makes more power on E85 then C16. They have swapped a handful of cars that were on C16 over to E85 and found more power with E85. This includes their unlimited class time attack car.

We too are out here in CA and run E85 on many of our cars.

We have tried C16 as wel as ERC 118 from a local fuel company only thing we have not tried due to availability is Q16.

For the price alone the E85 is way worth the switch so long as you have the fuel system up to par to make the HP you'd like.

The other main thing especially for my evo is the cost of spark plugs fouling $50 for a set gets old fast.

Here is a comparo of my car tuned on the ERC118 vs E85 w/ all supporting mods being the same.

ERC 118:

E85:

We ran out of inj on e85 and 1200's and so i will have new #'s w/ the FIC 1450's by wed on E85 alone as i think the car will have the hp i'd like for bottom 10's.

This is from the alternative fuel.

I didn't hear one person say C16 or even q16 was better then e85 even though their octane ratings are really far apart.

E85 FTW!

1st off C16 is fuel of the past.. Q16 has already replaced it..

Every car we have tuned with Q16 has made more on E85 after switching.. Thats enough proof to me.. Forget wasting the moolah even if you have it..

I wonder if the timing maps would be very similiar between the 2 fuels. I have a c16 map and I would like to start converting it to an e85 map. I was thinking that I would add 30% more fuel and go from there. Any thoughts?

Alot of people are making more power with e85 then q16 you just need a larger fuel system to do it
