It's one of HKS' oddball turbos, basically a 35R compressor fitted to a relatively tiny GT28 turbine. I think the idea was to use spool a large, efficient compressor quickly, but the tradeoff is the small turbine seems to limit airflow to somewhere around the low-mid 400s. I recall seeing them discussed some years ago for a few other platforms, but where EVOs are concerned, a stock IX turbo can probably be made to outperform it.

Exactly what Ted said. Small turbine and big compressor, not a good match.

I wouldn't because he hasn't got a clue .

GT"2835" means cropped GT30 UHP turbine with GT35 series compressor ie 71.1mm in 48 or 52 or 56 trim .

Sorry to be blunt but to be honest there is nothing 28 or GT28 about these turbochargers , I guess the 28 bit comes from HKS initially using these cartridges in bored out (butchered) GT28 turbine housings intended for Garrett's GT28 NS111 turbines .

By the way their cartridge numbers are 700177 series meaning GT30 turbine family . An unmolested GT30 UHP turbine measures ~ 60mm major diameter and ~ 55mm exducer size - 84 trim .
The cropped GT30 turbine is ~ 56.6mm major diameter and either 51.8mm or 53.6mm exducer size depending on trim size which is generally 84T but can be 90T .

Cartridge numbers for ID purposes .

700177-2 ... GT2835 52T with 84T turbine .
700177-3 ... GT2835 56T with 84T turbine .
700177-4 ... GT2835 56T with 90T turbine .

Logic suggests that 700177-1 is the 48T version with 84T turbine .

Cheers A .
