Oil pressure light flickers on at idle.

I've been trying to figure this out for awhile now and it just driving me nuts. When I'm just idling the car likes to flicker the oil pressure light, but when you apply throttle it turns off. When I changed the oil it still did it and I put on an oil pressure gauge to confirm that I didn't have low oil pressure. Could it just be the pressure sending unit going bad? Or could it be something far worse? I dont want to risk my motor shooting craps because of that.

hahaha thats funny mine JUST started to do this yesterday. its pissing me off. is your car tuned? it started doing it after i changed my timing maps. tried to change the idle in ecuflash didnt help. it only does it when its really hot out though.
what mods do you have? i got the greddy 264 cams so i though maybe that was the problem. bump for the flickering oil pressure light!!

whens the last time you changed your oil? also how hot is the oil? i have the evo9 SE with the gauge package and the oil temperature when reads like above 88 degrees C is mostly when the light keeps flickering. im 1500 miles overdue on my oil change and that combined with the around 90 degrees C oil temperature and with the hot weather in georgia, the oil may be broken down. im changing my oil tomorrow to see if that fixes it i will let you know what happens

The cheaper guages in my car it came with the oil reads 0-100psi and it reads like 0-1psi, the light isnt on but according to the obdII active readings it runs 4-5psi at idle, sounds crazy low, light isn't on tho

so i changed my oil today. it seemed to help a little bit. now for some reason im thinking that when i installed my MBC theres a leak somewhere now. so ima rip everything apart tomorrow i guess and we'll see from there. after i installed the mbc i noticed that my vacumm reads -30 cm2 or whatever it is. (i have the SE gauge packge reading in Bars) usually it is around -35-39 so i think it is a vacumm leak. i HOPE its a vacumm leak....and not a head gasket or something else

It is your oil pressure sending swith. It happens on mitsus a lot, the part is usually in stock at your local dealer, around $35.00. You'll also need a special socket from autozone that is $10. The switch is located on the back of the block and can be changed with hand tools. I just did this last weekend.

that doesnt make sense though...is a 2006 with less than 40k miles. it only does it sometimes...seems when its hotter out or if the idle gets too low. i moved my hallman mbc from laying sideways to more vertical and seemed to fix the problem a little bit.

yeah the light is still flickering. it was pretty much fine all day but drove around for like 80 miles and it started again. fixed the negative vaccumm issue...it was my uicp hose. still gonna do a boost leak test sometime soon. i hope the mitsubishi dealer has those sending units in stock....that light is pissing me off.

I have the same issue and from what I've read you just gotta replace the oil pressure light sender. It doesn't bother me all that much though so I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.

OK here are my suggestions: (1) make sure that there is not another wire touching the oil pressure sending unit (it will cause it to ground and the light will come on) -- possibility if someone installed a oil pressure gauge as the sender will be near the factory sending unit, (2) what does your oil pressure gauge read (since you stated you installed one) -- your oil pressure will be lower at idle than when driving or under load -- maybe you do have an oil pressure issue, or (3) maybe your stock oil pressure sending unit is going bad (I doubt that)....

OK some basics that should help you--

(1) Your engine works on vacuum until your turbo is pushing air into your engine (boost)....At idle you will always be in vacuum...

(2) Your MBC will have nothing to do with your oil pressure

More questions for you --

(1) When you oil light flickers, how full is your oil ? Have you checked it lately? When you changed the oil, how many quarts did you put in?

(2) At 'idle', what is your RPM ? And does the oil pressure warning light turn off 100% at 1K rpm ? (I am wondering if your car is just idling too low with cams etc)

the oil light flickers but the oil stick reads full. changed the oil few days ago used 5 qts mobil 1 10w30.
my idle rpm is pretty good i set it to like 875 thats where it stays usually flucuates between 800-910. the cams i have are the greddy easycam 264/264s. im thinking and hoping its that oil pressure sending unit.
