Wow just wow. Looks like you bought your evo from the wrong owner. I would flip the dv asap. It will indeed cause your turbo to fail prematurely.

no reason to change your stock diverter (unless its the viii plasic unit), unless you are going to crank the boost over 26 psi or higher.

OP: Don't do it! The OEM plastic valves are junk, but the oem METAL valves off of the 8 MR's and IX's are fantastic. Lots of us running 30psi on them untouched.
