I'm hoping to see more back to back comparisons of people switching.

I switched because of the horrible surging I would get in 3rd gear and up it would bounce between 28-30psi extremely fast. Now it simply goes to 30 and holds no surging at all. I am almost constantly at 0psi. I sadly do not have a before and after dyno. It seems to spool faster to me but mabey it is just me. I would not go back to the old housing. I have had the turbo since around oct.-nov. 08 and I love the new housing. I just can't wait for a bigger "stock appearing" turbo to come out.

i'd go 80mm, no surge, and its probably louder too due to the anti-surge housing.

I am extremely happy with my 63mm. It does not surge for me so I guess I dont have a reason to go to the bigger 80mm housing.

Don't get me wrong. It is **** that FP has solved compressor surge for the Red with this new housing. I am pretty close to ordering the new HTA Green. Yes, I probably shall order it with the 80mm anti-surge housing. I don't need a stock appearance housing and I'd hate to find out after installation that my new turbo surges with the standard, 63mm housing.

I'm happy with my 80mm housing choice. Some members 63 mm housing would surge and I guess alot of the vendors spoke with FP about this. I have no idea if this make more power 63 vs 80mm but I must say the 80mm is loud and I hear the thing spool up just cruising on the street I love mine. Plus I hit 28psi and hold all the way to redline. I'm not sure if it's from the combo of parts or work done or even the EBC but it all came together perfectly

The new 80mm housing is real loud. Sounds like a ufo coming down the street just cruising.

Absolutely no surge on the dyno in 4th gear.

The factory EVO9 comp housing is actually a TD07 scroll.

I've yet to see anyone send any data verifying true surge on a Red, or seen it here, they were designed to presurge and not hit true surge. Presurge is fairly harmless, true surge is not. If this phenomena you call 'surge' is happening at part throttle, it isn't surge OR presurge, its pressure differential across the throttle body caused by a variety of things and resulting in your BOV flutter or bucking.

Surge ported covers have extra inlet area available to them, if they are utilized correctly they increase flow. Thus the 'flow enhancement port' terminology.

Glad to hear the 80mm is louder. I'm not trying to be a ricer with the noise (I don't do VTA, for instance) but I come from the diesel world and love to hear the sound of a spooling snail! Even listening to a big-aise dump truck sounds sweet to me.

I'm in line and can't wait to get my red!

Do you have a recommendation on choosing one housing vs. the other?

I think the 63mm housing is pretty loud as is lol. Mine already sounds like a damn semi while cruising. I could only imagine what it would sound like with the 80mm housing. I am curious about getting the new housing but I want to see more testing/reviews before making the decision.

Also I've become fairly lazy when working on my car now. Maybe it's the south humid heat I dunno but is it possible to swap out the housings without even taking the turbo off? No flaming just asking.

The 80mm is not laggy and is better than the 63mm for high boost cars only. It takes off the same.
