just installed MBC.

I just wanted to pass this along to anyone installing a mbc, I found it alot easier to install by removing the fan to get to the actuator and the scroll housing, to remove the fan I took the upper radiator hose off and the upper intercooler pipe (the rubber hoses also) then you can get the fan out, it's a little tricky, you have to rotate it as you pull it out, but it's not that difficult, if you have any questions please feel free to email me...Jack

That seems to be the popular method.. I did it from under the car which was a bit tricky, but didn't require taking as much stuff apart.. I'd have hated to get an air bubble in my radiator hose, or put my intercooler piping on only to have it blow off.. But your absolutely right that is the easiest access to it.

d evolved one, I installed the ams one, it was very easy to dial in, turned it almost all the way out, then drove the car, did some third gear runs to check boost, only took a couple runs to get it dialed, I also have the RNR turbo back exhaust with cat delete, and will soon be installing my apexi safc and RNR intake kit, these mods are the best for the money in my opinion, Ryan from RNR has these same mods and is running mid 12's....Jack

I found by removing the airbox assembly and reaching under the maf hose I could access the wastegate and turbo nipple.

The fan is pretty easy to remove, I just took off the upper intercooler hose(the aluminium piece with the 2 rubber pieces), and pulled the upper radiator hose off from the top of the radiator, you might be able to do it without taking loose the radiator hose but i did it just to make sure, then as you pull the fan up you will notice the thing that looks like a black box on back of the fan hits the alumium pipe coming from the intercooler, looks like it wont come out, but if you rotate it (clockwise) as you pull it up it comes out without much hassle, the intercooler hoses where probably the hardest part for me, breaking them loose took some muscle, but all in all it was easy..

I just did mine today. I have the AMS MBC. The instructions are for **** and if you don't have some experience with these things, you are in for alot of work and lots of guessing

I found that I had to remove the battery to get to the upper IC hoses removed so I could reach the airbox attachment to the MAS.

Next, I removed the fan. I think it's very difficult to do this job with the fan in place.
The fan is not too hard to remove, but it does take some wrestling with it.

I found that removing all the hoses was a real PITA. The hoses just dont want to come off their respective nipples.

Here is where I got in trouble, the instructions were just not to clear and I hooked it backwards (I even had some help and they also misunderstood the instructions). Anyway, the MBC will not work at all if it's hooked backwards. The nipple off the side across the vent hole must be connected to the wastegate hose and the bottom nipple in the MBC must be connected to the "tee" that you insert in the BOV to intake hose.

Another thing to remember is that the MBC needs to be installed almost all the way out to hold 19 p.s.i. I was going crazy with the boost spikes and scared to death about hurting the engine before I finally figured out it was incorrectly installed at first I switched the hoses and finally got it adjusted to hold boost. After much dicking around I got it to hold around 19 p.s.i. I'll know more tomorrow as I did not get a chance to try the last setting very much.

Up until the last adjustment, I was actually thinking that I was going to take it off and let the stock EBC do the job since it works flawlessly. I might still do it if I cannot get the MBC tuned to my satisfaction. If you don't have some experience with these things, the MBC is not easy or quick to install or adjust. Also, I don't know how it's going to work out in the long run when the temperatures outside change and it gets cold.

Here is a sketch of how I installed the MBC... I believe this is the right way as I finally got it to hold boost. Please comment on it and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

Do you have to drain the coolant first if removing the radiator hose? btw removing the upper intercooler pipe is a pita because it's on very tight even w/ the hose clamps out. I think it's easier to get to the turbo/actuator hoses from the bottom of the car w/ the undertray removed.

nope the diagram seems right. You do NOT connect the mbc between the actuator and the turbo nipples if that's what you're saying.
