HELP!! Loud knocking from engine..
So heres the deal. I had this loud knocking noise that came from my engine. Couldn't figure out why. Sounded like it was coming from my head. Thought it was maybe a rockerarm or something. Turned out good. I can't figure out why it was knocking. The noise would disappear whenever I would step on the clutch. Figured it was my throwout bearing but the people I asked said no it can't be. It's my rod bearings. So I take those out and they're fine. Anyone run into this problem at all? Car died on me at a stop sign and won't start up anymore. Help anyone?

Thrust bearings. If it goes away whenever you step on the clutch, it's because you are placing pressure on the crankshaft via the PP/FW, and this is taking up any slack that has worked it the phenomenon called "crankwalk". You will have to replace those, and since you are at it, your main bearings/rod bearings may as well be replaced, too. Time for a rebuild.
The 2G 4G63 had this problem, as well as the EVO IV. Read this to know more about crankwalk. http://www.overbore.com/?go=Define.CrankWalk
