Turbo Evo 9 80 series
Turbo Evo 9 80 series
Hi guys,
Can you please tell me whats the difference between evo 9 80 series turbo and 70 series turbo?
I know that with cams 80 series will do without any problem 420/430 bhp on 1.8 bar.
Also seems that IX 80 series is very reliable and will make more power than most consider safe on a standard bottom end.
The 80 series is maxed out at 440 bhp at max but 70 series I really don't know.
I will run 280 GSC cams soon and I want to learn more about the evo 9 stock turbo proprieties.
My series turbo terminations ended with 14580 but I don`t think that this is the number to look for what type of turbo i have.
Can you please tell me more about those two types of turbo?
Thanks

80 series is the regular GSR turbo, which comes with the inconel exhaust wheel and aluminium comp wheel.
The 70 series is the one they used on the RS which comes with the titanium exhaust wheel and magnesium comp wheel, this series had problems with the comp wheel coming apart and the comp wheel was redesigned and comes under the 71 series part number.
There should be a series of numbers, yours should have 01580 on it, this means you have the 80 series.

The 70 series and 71 series are super fast spooling turbos, but both of these series also blow up super fast! I have blown one 70 series at stock boost, one 71 series at 24 psi, gave my friend another 71 series which blew at 24 psi, saw another 71 series blow at stock boost level. I would never ever buy one of those turbos again.
I have tried FP white, which spools quick too and has good top end, and right now I am running BBK Full, which spools about 200-300 rpm later than the white, but has much better top end pull.

In order to be on a safe zone with my engine...........with my 80 series turbo , 750cc injectors, walbroo 255 , GSC 280 cams I will be able to pass 400 Bhp?
Currently without 755CC injectors and cams I have 1,5 bar(24psi) with TBEC set at 0
