Amsoil Intake Air Filter Review

I have been using the Injen Air Filters for a few years.

And also getting my motor oil from Andy, http://www.lubedealer.com/order/.

After the most recent motor oil order, the topic of the air filter came up.

I decided to purchase the Amsoil Air Filter, and get it installed right away.

The filter is of very hi quality, and it comes with the clamp an everything to fit the intake fitting.

I was very interested in testing it and finding out if it worked as good as my old Injen filter, so I used some good old tools I have in my car to do just that.

I found out the new Amsoil filter spools the Turbo faster at low rpms, and in the mid range, it made more peak boost. It also maintained the boost more the higher the rpms. Using the super AFC-II, the new Amsoil Filter logged 2276 Hertz at peak boost, and the Injen did 2145 Hertz.
That means that the Turbo was able to suck 130 plus more Hz and feed more air ito the engine.

So I am keeping it, and recommending it to everyone. My comparison shows it is as good or better than the Injen. Very good price, and super hi quality.

My engine is still braking in, so I did not take the rpms much higher than 6900 rpms.

Here are 3 pictures of the logs:

Low rpms

Mid rpms, and peak boost

Hi rpms

I can't seem to make out anything in those small pics. Do you have Evoscan? I'm curious to know what the pressure drop was on a pull to see how high-flowing this filter is.

One second, I am re-sizing them.

The Super AFCII shows is flowing more air. The reading from it is very accurate.
I do not have Evoscan.

Here is a picture of the Injen Filter and 2 pictures of the New Amsoil Filter on my engine for reference on what they look like:

Was your injen filter clean when you did the test? I know its a dumb question but had to ask.

cool filter

Yea, I'd like to see the pressure drop measurements also, looks like the only difference really is the opening in the end of the filter. I remember when I went to dyno day at CBRD Speedfactory, they found the Perrin filter to be the best one so far, still the filter probably flows better than the Apexi that came on my Evo when I bought it.

The stock filter is good for a stock car, or a car with minor mods.
You should get an after market filter if you don't have one. It will gain you 10 to 15 more whp.

The Injen filter is very good. It has serve me well. I made 540 whp with it.

I re-did alot of things on my car and will now use this new Amsoil filter. It seems to flow very well.

I am using the new 80mm FP Red with it.

Injen filter was clean. You can see it in the picture I posted of it.
It was a used filter, but I cleaned it very good and re-oiled it less than 3 weeks ago.

Just for quick reference and comparisons, I did a test in which the pressure from a K&N drop-in with the stock airbox would lower from 102kpa to 94 by 7000rpms. Then I installed a Vibrant cone filter (which Buschur sells) and the pressure went from 102kpa to 99.5 by redline on a 3rd gear pull! Barely any drop. Now at such a high flowing rate, people are skeptical about its filtering quality, which is why I'm going to send my motor oil off for analysis on my next oil change. That's why I'm trying to compare this Amsoil one to these numbers, cuz supposedly Amsoil's filtering quality is highly regarded.

Good work.

Everyone of us is in the quest for better flow, and also wanting to keep the dirt from getting in the airstream.

Another thing that I noticed was, that with the Injen Filter, the Turbo seems to whistle a little higher. This new 80mm FP Red sounds like a Fighter Jet, .
And after installing the Amsoil Filter, the Turbo whistle has toned down a little. I like it like this.

I can't tell you why, but one may conclude the filter element is denser, dampening the sound more. Until someone else does another test, thats what we have so far.

I just bought the amsoil filter as well. Great quality...definitely the best out of any filter that I have bought before and the filtering capabilities are supposed to be great as well..much better then the perrin.

I have an Amsoil sitting in my garage. It is the best quality filter I have seen, and i'm lookingn forward ot running it. I'm hoping to make 600+ through the MAF on it.

Here's a man that knows how to test a filter. The true way to test an air filter's performance is to measure the pressure drop after the filter. Measuring the airflow Hz of the maf means nothing because different air filters can affect the reading of the maf sensor differently. That's why dyno tests don't prove a thing either, unless the car was retuned perfectly on both filters.

Since you have a MAF, take advantage of the baro sensor right in the MAF. That's the tool that will tell you how well the filter is flowing air. Less pressure drop is less restriction and better flow. Also, since your MAF has a temp sensor built right in as well, measure thatl, too to see if there are any increases/decreases in temp. It's air density that truely matters in the end, which is affected by the pressure and temperature.

I do think the Amsoil filter is a great filter and plan on getting one myself soon as well, but I would like to see the pressure drop data.

Edit: This is what I mean. Here is a review I did on a filter 2 years ago.
